You guys are gonna WANT to help me. =]

I'm doing a fairly large professional (free) SF2 pack for the forums.
All the sounds will be very useful and inspiring.
If anyone has recommendations on some sounds they'd like to see in the pack let me know.

Its designed for trance.
So far I have pikes, plucks, chips, hard and soft leads, acids, piano, 303, click bass, running bass, sub bass, but NO PADS. (not doing any)

I've been preparing to do this for a while and just found chainer which is the best thing in the world for the job.
Theoretically you can open like 50 vsts, detune/lfo/modulate 300 saw waves and convert them into condensed, powerful multisampled SF2's.

My PROBLEM.
I started sampling in 24 bit, and when I was testing them in FL a lot of them were crashing FL.
So I started sampling in 16 bit (mixing the 16 & 24 bits in the same folder like an idiot) and noticed, (well I THINK cause they're mixed) the 16 bits don't crash FL.

But my question is this, I know it can't be the size of the SFs because I loaded soundfonts 5 times the size and they weren't crashing. But I'm guessing its only the 24bit ones.

Does anyone know why this might happen? I'm going to sample the rest in 16bit but now I have to trash like 30 really good samples. =[

The pack will be up in hopefully another few days, but if anyone has an idea about why that might happen please let me know. Thanks!

Just a longshot, but couldnt this be because your FL project and sound settings are set to 16 bit ?

Its a good guess but I went back in and double checked, theres no settings to switch from 16 to 24bit except only when you render a project and export it.
I'm not doing any rendering (in Fruity, just testing the samples) so its gotta be something else.

I'm gonna see if I can crash Reason with them, and if I can't I'm going to download a different soundfont player to use in Fruity and see if that stops the issue, thanks.

Reason is not even opening them, its saying "bad format" with a red x and refusing to open them.
This is so confusing.

OK EVERYTHING IS GOOD.
I got it working in ALL soundfont players.

I looked at the post you did, very good, I actually already have some of those sounds in it but you give me ideas for more.
I don't want to do NNXT because why is it better anyway? Plus I'm not sure how many other programs support NNXT.

I'm going to do a teaser demo tommorow on youtube just so you guys can see what the sounds are looking like. Its only gonna be free for people on this board, I'll be selling it at other places (ebay, website, etc).

Stay tuned everyone!

Ill make some patches for you if you can make some for me! also i have a website i can help you sell them! i just need to pay the bill! I think this is the last year i will keep it up ill it starts makeing some $$ in google adds or some thing!

Yeh definitely, if you make the presets and send them to me I can sample them into the final pack.

I'm not imagining I'm going to make a lot (if any) money because you need a good reputation usually and I'm just starting. But I'll send you everything and you can keep 50% of w/e you make.

Once people here get the pack and leave feedback I'm going to direct potential buyers here. Thats why people are gonna also have to hussle because before I put it out for sale it will be taken off this site for obvious reasons.

If it's crashing FL at all, then your SF2s are messed up. Use Sample Robot -- http://www.samplerobot.com

Sounds good robby can't wait to here it.

I tried with samplerobot but I can't understand the interface. It looks like you need Cubase LE and it doesn't tell you in the flash tutorial how to hook up vsts. I messed around a couple of hours than gave up.
Chainer will make soundfonts but it messes up the formatting.
I have read this on other forums too that chainer will not even make soundfonts that are readable in Reason. (all come up "bad format")

What did work was I took the soundfonts I made in Chainer and opened them in Awave Studio, I resaved them as soundfonts in awave and for some reason they all work in Reason, and I'm not having any issues with Fruity either.

I'm assuming that chainer is simply a poorly built program. Its useful but its outdated and doesn't work like it should, the only positive is its extremely easy to use.

I'll try and get a youtube demo up later today! Later folks.

Does anyone actually use soundfonts ?

Posted by Zak McKracken on Jan-06-2009 19:19:

some samples ive found are around are compressed and i dont think reason supports that.

Ok will be getting some samples up today, its a large pack and I've decided it would only be rational to upload like 10% of it, than when I sell it - it'll be the whole pack in dvd format.

Otherwise it will take people 40 years to download.

Bump for people who want the free pack, it'll be up before the end of the night!
