What will change everything?

The Big Question Of The Year

What will change everything?

That's the Edge Foundation's question for 2009. Answers range from a technological breakdown to the rise of a new religion.

I thought this was a very interesting thought provoker.

Nothing can change everything...some things always remain the same.

Unless that comet thats headed towards earth doesnt burn up...then we are fucked

Posted by MissK on Jan-06-2009 16:55:

I'm not saying this will ever happen......

BUT

If money were abolished everything would change.

Think of a world without money. Money breeds stress, war, anger, hostility etc.

If I think about things I look or think about most often where I can make an educated guess, I think the American consumer has the power right now. Not individually, but en masse, if the new, debt/risk-averse mentality of the american consumer sticks and by some strange happening, the U.S. turns into a penny pinching country, the global economy is going to undergo a massive facelift.

Fortunately for everyone else, the US government is pulling out all the stops to ensure Americans keep spending and stay levered.

What is the time frame for this question? I was thinking this year when I answered.

In general, I'd say China, but that's somewhat related to the above.

What will change is not really that important because of the fact that most of us are end users here.....we have no say or ability to change...we take our daily lives as it comes to us....e.g:- Oil prices will they go up most likely .....do we have any say in that (sort of yes ) but does anyone give a shit "NO"......there are so many other things that we can only talk about, question or even voice our opinons but at the end of the day......The people who have the power to change will bring the change based on their on interests.

Or enviormental reasons can cause some change on which both end users or GOVT,Corp people even cant do anything about e.g:-katrina,storms of similar nature.

my 2 cents

Your absolutely right at the end of the day what say do we really have. (I get so frustrated with that thought.)

I am an ant in a world that I have little control over.

But it doesn't stop me from analyzing the world from my perspective.

yup....We can just talk about it among ourseleves ,complain just like we do pretty much everyday,or worse come to worse protest on dundas street holding banners with stop this or stop that signs on them ....but at the end of the day we go home the problem that led us to do that is still there.

I don't know enough about religion, or science, or war to be able to say that any one of those things will "change everything." So I stuck with what I know (ie, what I look at everyday I'm at work). Ye follow?

So does religion and I think in a worse way..

Get rid of it and I think it'll solve a lot of problems...

Abolishing money wouldn't accomplish anything, as people would find an alternate means to exchange goods for services or vice versa. Money is only a medium for the exchange of resources... in order to accomplish what you state the abolishment of money would accomplish you'd actually need to abolish ownership of property and resources.

Sorry but that's bullshit. The problem with religion is not religion itself but how some misuse it to advance personal or political interests. If there were no religion those same people would misuse something else.

I don't think it's necessarily that black and white. Who knows what other problems may occur if money weren't in existence.

What I am saying is that 'our way of life' revolves around money. It runs everything we do in certain terms. I believe a world without money would change everything.

Imagine.

Nanotechnology will change everything. Maybe not in 2009, but in the next 10 years maybe.
