Jake J - January 2009 Demo Mix

This is my first "proper" demo mix in a significant amount of time (two years, actually). I didn't really put any special thought into it or try to keep a theme; rather, I just made it a point to start recording every mix I did and upload those mixes that I found to be at least decent. Yes, there are two "older" tracks on this mix, but that really doesn't bother me. I don't focus on including all of the newest, hottest tracks, nor do I try and drop an older hit for a response. I just dig through my crate and try to find the track that will fit best.

This was recorded on a second take of sorts. Much of the music on this was purchased the day of the recording. I took one round out to spin the music just to get a feel for it and ended up loving the first hour of what I had spun. I omitted one track, hit record and did it again. This is the result, and I really don't have any complaints aside from the mixes into and out of Strange Place of Mind. Hopefully it's enjoyable to you, as well.

01. Ragga Fonda - Libell [Mosaiko]
02. Samuel L. Session - Choose One [Be As One]

So I finally gave this a listen tonight and I really enjoyed it. Beginning had a nice groovy tech house flow to it and around the back half you picked it up a bit. I really enjoyed the couple tracks with the spoken word / poetic type things going on, don't know the track names since I have a hard time following TLs while listening.

Mixing was really tight and clean from what I could hear, everything worked very well together, and as I said, I felt you built it up nicely from the beginning to the end. Thanks for sharing.

I'd support you but that would be supporting communism.

this was really good, gave it a couple of whirls. good flow, good skeletal structure of the mix and a nice groove. good shit really

good job jake!

i hate the remix of another man, but that is just taste the rest was really well thought out.

Posted by denys envy on Jan-21-2009 17:59:

ohh yeah i did listen to this.

i thought it was mellow. well mixed and groovy, but mellow. a lot of light percussion and some of that "steel drum" feeling.

i think i had to take a shit afterwards. will check this out again and give it a more thorough once over.

Thanks. I know that the major critique from a lot of people the last time I posted up a serious mix was that I didn't do all that well with the flow of the set, and that has primarily been the one thing I've focused on over the last two years.

Thanks for the other reviews, guys.

Jake, this is a great set mate. Once again, your REALLY should do this more often Nice work though

Edit: You haven't edited the original post with a perma-link, you lazy mofo

I liked the set overall. It had the groove tech to start off with and then built up to Where You At and that fresh middle section. Towards the end it got a bit to blip bloopy for me, I guess I was just expecting a different sort of ending for the set. The first 35 - 40 minutes were cash. Mixing was spot on, but that was to be expected.
