A great new Idea I had, I need feedback!

I was thinking that I could make a web page where people from TA could go and find the BPM's and Keys of songs.

I was thinking I could incorporate the following elements:

1. the ability for people to post the bpm/key of songs
2. easy searchable interface
3. ability to post comments for every song

future elements could include:

1. cover art
2. polls
3. artist bios

what do you guys think I want some feedback before I start delving into PHP

any comments / suggestions would be apreciated

thx in advance

There are programs like Traktor and AtomixMP3 which do BPM counts on the fly. Search Yahoo for em.

Talking

bpm of songs?
atomixmp3...
e.g. rip tune from vinyl, load into atomix, get bpm, add to site and do nothing

well i thought we could use it more for the keys of songs to use in harmonic mixing, this way you could find a list of songs in teh same key that another song you have is already in, that way you could make some sweet sets

good idea, but im not sure how keys work. i know u get pitches tones etc. could someone give me a quick explanation of a key

Good idea, but is that really the reason why? To pre-arrange so quality sets could be produced?
Quality sounding sets comes from the natural vibe of the music and how each song connects with each other in a way transcending musical science..i.e key and pitch tones.
Mind me if I'm sounding like a fuck ass right now, but the world sucks, and my motivation to wake up every day drops by each sunrise...I let my friend borrow my decks, and things...well, lets just leave it at that.
Peace.

Anthony Pappa arranges his records and sets according to key matching and he is by far a strong technical dj. This is definitely not a bad way to sort out your music.

Posted by dJohn on Jun-08-2002 02:24:

Thats great and all, but 'your' true sets come from your feeling of the music and how you respond with it...
There's nothing wrong with arranging sets, but that kinda takes the fun and meaning out of mixing tracks together. Unless your recording a mix tape or compiling a mix album, IMO, DJing trance comes from within rather than looking at numbers and letters and fitting them.

I know that you just cant mix songs in the same key and stuff, jeez. Trance is an art I know, but how many times have you been trying to make a kick ass mix and you just cant think of what track would finish off this set.

Wouldn't It be cool to look up you last song and find its key then look for other songs in that key to give you ideas on what you could mix. I think that could really help any Dj out!

i think it's a pretty good idea, i'll help with html/graphics if needed... you probably want a database driven website for what you're trying to accomplish.. one question though: how exactly are you going to figure out the pitch of a particular track?

Ok Beta 0.1 is out (zero because it really doesn't do anything yet, its basically just the layout, and reads the two tracks I have already entered into the database )

check out the link in my signature !!!

peace;
