oh - yes - i had heard the name before but as its not open yet...out of sight out of mind! lol. weird things is i had heard they were not allowed to use outside promoters per their CUP (which is strange in and of itself).

Rich - yes Boris MD....Boris is signed to Bullitt so he opens a lot for those guys.

and Giant is promoting it...

i just thought the pairing of styles was, umm... interesting.

Boris plays fairly hard prog house IMO....

Posted by R!CH on Jan-15-2009 00:32:

well i dunno, it's been a while since i've heard him play, but of the handful of times i did he played commercial trance.

Posted by Airshow on Jan-15-2009 00:36:

Dr Boris is f-ing sick... His Noctornal set and Sharam opening were kick-ass.... I wonder if everyone down at UCLA Med Center know how much of a bad ass he really is.

Posted by gerard6975 on Jan-15-2009 00:37:

to be fair, dr. boris did play minimal techno during his set at MNS last year.

and yes it does suck that they're not allowing outside promoters for the venue. i've been chatting with Alex (who handles playhouse) and they do have a good reason for doing it.

but let's see how that goes...

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jan-15-2009 00:41:

so why aren't they allowing outside promoters?

reasons?

i know avalon likes to run all there stuff in house but still hire promoters but only for promotional stuff not event organizing

from what i heard, it was part of the CUP (conditional use permit) the club agreed to with City of LA to open up the venue. The reasons behind that i have no idea....though obviously the guys involved directly with the club do.

Is this the Fox Theater in Pomona? If it is, I have a pretty good idea what the CUP is all about.

It's because they don't want to have to deal with 2-Promoters-1-CUP

p.s. I actually have no idea.

well, the CUP is part of it but mostly through their past experience @ crobar ny. though i think they will use street promoters. but not allow a spundae, incognito, chemistry and the like kind of deal.

remember when giant & spundae left circus? that's the main reason.

but hey, just ask them

Dr. Boris plays all styles...techno, progressive, house...I could even remember him playing trance before Armin in SD.

Posted by Stevo2000 on Jan-15-2009 17:51:

I see Boris all the time at HEAT on Thursdays. He's been spinning Techno and Tech House in his sets for quite a while. He opened for DUBFIRE in Vegas last Memorial Day weekend and did a fantastic job setting him up. He even played pretty techy when opening for Tiesto at HEAT in December, dropping tracks like CHURCH OF NONSENSE...

Will try to make it! I'm on the GL now, but beleive it or not $15 is a lot of money for me right now so we'll see... and I just remembered I'll have to pay for parking, too...

How much is parking near the Ivar? Please don't say $20

i would suggest getting there a bit early and just driving around the neighborhood...you should be able to find free street parking without too much effort...note that on some streets they will ticket you after 2am (Hollywood Blvd is one example) so just make sure of that before you park your car.
