Ableton GUI Error

Sometimes when I'm working in Ableton, menus and VST windows will suddenly become transparent. They still function as if they are open, but I can't see them. Only if I move my mouse over the menu options, thereby changing the highlight or refocus by clicking on the vst windows will they reappear. Although, some things still show transparent (menu option line separators for instance, since you can't highlight them.)

Anyone else have this problem? It's been doing this to me since I first got Ableton at version 7.0.1.

Would it be a video card issue? Never happens in any of my other programs, only Ableton.

Are you sure you didn't just minimise the Ableton window?

If it's not that, then I have no idea as I have never encountered this problem!

happens to me too sometimes, especially with demo stuff (waves iirc). just hit the toolbar a few times until it flies open

Thats a strange one will need to look out for that, luckily i've never came across this...

stuff like this makes me stay in reason, unfortunately

It should be interesting to see a screenshot of that.

I've been using live as well and I never had that kind of issue.

Posted by Waza on Jan-15-2009 18:47:

yeah a screen shot would be nice.

Posted by kadomony on Jan-16-2009 16:53:

ok i'll get a screenshot up tomorrow of various instances of it occuring.

Posted by kadomony on Jan-17-2009 19:54:

ok here's the way it should look.

and after a while, this ends up happening.

quite possibly a display driver issue, could be a conflict that is specific to ableton. Try disabling you display driver and see if it still happens: right click my computer, manage, device manager on the left, expand display adapter on the right and right click on your driver, disable. you will need to restart, and you do the same but "enable" when you want to turn it back on. good luck

I think is some kind of buggy performance with the VST you're using. I don't really believe that it could be a hardware issue since you're not getting any other complication than just see a 'floating interface'. Otherwise, you may be experiencing an application crash.

Reinstalling everything could help?

Oh, btw, there's another VST that got this abnormal behavior?

Posted by Zombie0729 on Jan-17-2009 22:35:

oh this is not the same erorr i get. i get the plugin window box (like what nexus is in) but it will be blank inside sometimes. the plugin graphic isn't loaded

Hah yeah I get that with waves stuff too. That however is truly strange.

I get this also when I am running out of RAM, the /3GB switch can help this if your trying to run 4GB with XP

every vst except ableton's native plugins does this.

i think it may infact be a RAM issue as it seems to start only after ableton's been up for a while (and i'm only using 1gb of ram)

LOL, get more ram! double it atleast, and remember the switch if you go to 4gig on 32 bit windows

Posted by Waza on Jan-20-2009 12:30:

Well so far for me i've never experienced this problem. I'm running 4gig with xp.
