Ableton Live 8.0

Here we go: http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_8/announcement/home

New in Ableton Live 8
Version 8 enhances the Ableton vision of creative, real-time digital music with a wealth of new techniques, effects and most-wanted workflow improvements.

New groove engine
Groove patterns can add life and swing to straight sequences. Live 8's new groove engine lets you apply groove patterns in real time, extract grooves from audio or MIDI sources, quantize audio and MIDI in real time. It also comes with a new groove library.

New warping engine
Live 8 introduces a new, more direct way of working with warping and some important Warp Mode enhancements. You can now warp audio events by adjusting the events themselves on the timeline. Beats Mode has been updated, and there's a completely new Complex Warp Mode. Plus you can slice audio files to MIDI tracks based on transients.

Looper
A much-requested feature, the Ableton Looper effect gives you classic sound-on-sound looping without the limitations of a hardware device. Looper is set up for remote operation, so you can record, overdub, undo and more without touching the computer.

New effects
Live 8 includes five powerful new effects: Vocoder, Multiband Dynamics, Overdrive, Limiter and Frequency Shifter. These effects cover all the well-known aspects of these devices, but really shine due to some innovative features and enhancements from the Ableton labs.

Workflow enhancements
Version 8 makes Live easier with a number of most-wanted enhancements and some deceptively simple detail work including real-time crossfades in the Arrangement View, enhanced MIDI editing, group tracks, a screen magnifier and more.

Looking forward to this, as I have with every other previous release of Ableton.

Live 7 came out over a year ago. Really excited for the midi editing improvements and the grouped tracks. And everything else really.

Any news on a release date yet?

Posted by Sean Walsh on Jan-15-2009 20:40:

2nd Quarter 2009, so probably April-May.

Beta to start by end of Jan.

Finally watched all the videos on the site...........This is going to be off the fucking hook

Nice
Finally they are using the lastique Pro algorithm for complex warping.

I tell you what up until I found out about the below and the Akai APC40 I was a bit meh but with their linkup with the Max/MSP ppl Cycling '74 Im going to think seriously about using it for more than playing live.

The Akai APC40 is a tempting purchase.

Posted by Sean Walsh on Jan-15-2009 23:53:

There's absolutely zero chance that I won't be buying it =P Apparently it's only $399 MSRP

Posted by flutlicht junky on Jan-16-2009 00:03:

crazy price! Prob be 400 here through

Shame about $ to exchange rate as would import for USA

Posted by Fledz on Jan-16-2009 00:07:

Some very nice new workflow enhancement like grouping, advanced midi editing, crossfades, 128+ parameters and stuff like multiband dynamics, but almost US$200 to upgrade from Live 7 with the download version is a bit steep.
After all, there are no real major groundbreaking features this time round.

Posted by Sean Walsh on Jan-16-2009 00:51:

In the latest Ableton newsletter that just got sent out they provide a $30/30euro voucher for upgrading to Live 8, valid until June 2009 (which also confirms that it's definitely out before June).

To me it's worth the cost just for the grouping, enhanced midi editing, and >128 params (which could be annoying when using Live with the virus TI).

Posted by Fledz on Jan-16-2009 01:00:

Yea just saw that. Makes is a bit better then

Posted by evo8 on Jan-16-2009 01:29:

loads of good stuff there - will defo be upgrading

Posted by Lucidity on Jan-16-2009 02:23:

yea, this will be a must upgrade. I am most def gonna get that akai controller. That is sick, kinda like the monome. I kinda wish they would've implemented something for better syncing of 2 or more Ableton Live's. The groove feature will also be extremely useful.

Hopefully they let you view info on a track (length, bpm, key?).

Posted by Zombie0729 on Jan-16-2009 07:17:

sorry, didn't see this one. they said April 1st-8th is their expected launch date of Ableton 8

Posted by Acton on Jan-16-2009 09:03:

The APC40 is available for pre-order, but there is no price yet (that I can see).

Anyone fancy a guess at a price tag? I should imagine it will be in the region of 220 at least.

Live will put all the other DAWS to shame after this new version

Well that comment might raise a few issues with other TA's!

But it is definatly remaining competitive

Posted by djsphere on Jan-16-2009 11:56:

i'm not an ableton user, but i think this is good for all of us since other daw developers will also have to come up with somethin new as well in oreder to keep up.

new features and stuff.
cool

Yeah, and on the other hand, Ableton are only just releasing stuff that has been available in other DAW's for ages.

Posted by Acton on Jan-16-2009 16:50:

Just got a UK price on the Akai APC40.

399!

That's a bit more expensive than I previously though!

I'm going to have to save up for a while! Can anyone hazard a guess at the Ableton 8 Suite price?
