Why is it the shittier the taste, the more 'manly' the drink?

Wine > straight liquor

what's the best spirit you've ever had?

for me, it's definitely johnnie walker blue label.

Its all subjective. Im not sure he was aiming at being manly so much as just not knowing booze. Like when people think Patron is the best tequila.

Who decides what is best?

well, for starters, if you've only tasted 5-6 brands of tequila, you're in no position to decide.

In a nutshell,You do...but you have to actually try it. The best are for sipping and not shots/mixing. Im more of a tequila guy so I will use that as the example. The college crowd ( generalize ) may think Patron is "great" and that cuervo is shit. Thats because they havent tried "Cuervo de la Familia". Most dont know about it so cuervo is written off as shit. My favorite ( at a reasonable price) is Don Julio, so smooth and tasty.

If you get a chance try this:

What Im getting at is there are some unknown brands that go unnoticed unless someone shows them to you. Some of the best brands were ones Ive never heard of prior to trying.

Posted by Psy-T on Jan-16-2009 08:31:

well, it's kinda hard to take a brand seriously when most of their products are shit. :/

Meh.

I'm 18 and I live in the U.S. I pretty much drink whatever I can get my hands on. I would really like to learn my alcohol since I like bartending a lot.

I know a little bit about beer, but that's pretty much it. Heineken

Well when you see their basic shit at say $10 a bottle and then see the same brand on a new item at $100+.....I really want to try it.

You still have a few years to go before you can legally attend tastings and such so stick to the bullshit beer and booze so when you can buy/afford the better stuff you can notice the quality. You have to develop the palette ( my wine palette sucks, still) at first it all tastes funky.

Still very much enjoying this:

I got it cheap and it's probably not the best of its kind by far, but I like it, so I'm definitely going to pick up a better quality one when I get the chance.

It also helps that the bottle looks wicked as well
Cleanest and crispest Gin you could possibly find.

I also had this fantastic beer in Temple Bar in London. Bartended said it was called Temple Brau and that they brewed it there. Damn it was good.

Ketel One.

If it's available, it's what I order.

Otherwise it's usually Skyy.
