Woman blames Ubuntu for failing, and then the aftermath
Part 1 - The original story. The woman is complaining she can't open her Microsoft Word documents in Ubuntu.

Word of warning. Don't mess with Linux users. Don't leave your wounds open to Linux users. 
Can't really blame her. Ubuntu obviously doesn't have the same reputation that Windows does among your average computer user. When you buy something from a trusted salesperson (lol Dell) and they say it's "like Windows", what do you expect? Poor girl thought she got scammed and just didn't know what to do. Unfortunately not everyone can post here in the CORe and get our insightful help 
I Wish I had the patience for UNIX Distro , I did try Redhat many years ago and it took me 3 days to get my router config working after compiling about 20 sources with the kernel.

Many Ubuntu users also wrote very personal attacks about the young lady who was having trouble using the operating system. They called her "lazy," "a dumb girl," and "not worthy of a college degree."

Probably has been said but my favourite part is that the lady dropped out of a year of school rather than try to fix her problem at hand. Sure, college is purported to train people technically for their chosen specialty, but if you can't problem solve and don't want to learn how, you're not going anywhere.

Ubuntu is not for "clueless" (for lack of a better word) users. Windows does a better attempt at being that. Dell should have helped her better, instead of pushing nerdy technology. It is not windows, and it doesn't do everything windows does the way windows does, so don't push it as if it were.

Im not totally shifting the blame off Dell, but she called to complain that Ubuntu wasn't her ideal and she wanted to switch to Windows (at the still-available package price). Rather than stick to what she wanted, she let the Rep talk her into keeping something she didn't want and had already had bad experience with.
Dell doesn't offer software support for Ubuntu, which is another problematic situation here. If someone would've walked her through the simple steps of activating your wireless, setting up the included PPoE client, and starting OpenOffice, this whole situation could've been avoided. Instead, they basically told her she was stuck.

for $1,100, she would have went for another laptop other than a Dell. She could have went for a lower end Toshiba or Compaq with a Windows OS.
but yeah I think the lolworthy part is when she quit after she couldn't open Microsoft Office applications without looking at OpenOffice.

Ubuntu is for the clueless it's fucking easy. How the fuck do you install office on a pc? Click the big "install office" button? Cos that near enough what you do with open.
lol... i use unbuntu, its cool.
