hey, so ive been djing for about 5 months now, although i was into it for about 3 years (had to save up and by decks) technically speaking i think this is pretty good for my first ever mix and i feel comfortable posting it. the mix consist of just fun house songs that i enjoy, i guess it has a bit of a 80s flavor to it which i like. being 17 years old i dont have all the best resources available yet or have heard a really good set live yet, this set was done totally randomly and i after i listened to it i think it was good enough to post so enjoy.

OK, so I listened to this at work this morning...

Nice intro, I love "Congolal"...definitely one of my favorite tracks of 2008. The mix into "Tuesday" was a bit iffy though. You started mixing out too late and had to ride on the end of Congolal for way too long. It ended sounding like you stopped one track and hit play on the next one. Same thing happened with the mix into "Soulin' Deep", I'm not really sure if we end up listening to too much of the outro of "Tuesday" or too much of the intro, but there are too many dead beats there.

Now, the mix into "San Francisco" sounded great. It was a bit late too but it worked fine.
However, you started the mix into "Manhattan" late again and the dead beats were back. There was a noticeable decrease in energy here too. As I listen to more, I notice that most of the mixes start late and we end up listening to too much dead beats which keeps the set from flowing naturally. Sometimes the prhasing is a bit off too, but nothing too jarring. The last three or four mixes were much better timed and sounded good specially the mix out of "What You Say" into "The Sound".

Don't worry mate, I suffered from this very same thing when I started out (mixing late). When you are new to this, it's probably a bit hard to figure it out on your own if you don't have anyone to teach you. It seems pretty obvious to me now, but it certainly wasn't before

The best advice I've been given so far regarding my mixing has been to start mixing in tracks earlier. You have no idea how much it helps with the flow and you can come up with some very sweet sounding transitions by mixing melodies too instead of just beats. Watch out for phrasematching as well, I think this is one of the most important aspects of mixing.

Your tracklisting was good enough, and there were no problems with other things like EQing or beatmatching. I look forward to seeing (or hearing) your progress from here on
