Arrow Mugasha Launches - The best way to listen to DJ Sets.

After working on Mugasha for more then 6 months we finally launched Mugasha last week.

Background & Problem:
I am a huge EDM fan like many of you and I love listening to Sets. Although I have always found it difficult to interact with Sets and tracks within. These "sets" typically last 1 to 2 hours and are released as a single audio file. Fans can usually find track lists of the sets, but pinpointing specific songs and otherwise interacting with such a long audio file is a struggle. Because of electronic dance music's inherent differences, existing Web 2.0 music sites have not and can not effectively cater towards this genre and its fans.

About Mugasha:
Mugasha changes the listeners' interaction with these DJ sets. We make them more accessible and more functional. Simply put, Mugasha allows electronic dance music fans to interact with DJ sets as if they were albums. Users are able to view track lists, skip and replay tracks, and jump to specific songs. They have the ability to quickly skim through sets or instantly play any song from any point in a set. Mugasha is a new channel for DJs to distribute their music to the electronic dance music community, and more effectively build their following.

Friends, traditional radio is on its way out and the new distribution channels are increasingly becoming popular. Mugasha aims to leverage digital media and hopes to increase the accessibility of EDM around the world. We'll start with building a killer app online but you will see us slowly move to mobile apps such as the iPhone and Blackberry.

Currently we are in private beta (limited time) to get feedback from core users. So we need your help and we want you to listen to a ton of sets.
I have a few beta invites to give away here, Sign up with invitation code 'tranceaddict' or visit the link http://mugasha.com/signup/tranceaddict Yes It is free.

Please let use know (feedback link on the site) if you have any question or suggestions.
Cheers,
Akshay
Mugasha Team

You just invented the cue file.

Do like...do you have sets on the website? Live sets? How do you get the TL on live sets?

Is it free?

Well technically each Mugasha is basically a fancy parsing of a cue sheet. Although it is more then that in terms of usability.
Making cue sheets is no fun, let alone grabbing a cue sheet, downloading a 100 meg file then using a cue splitter to split it. Oh and most (my guess) people who listen to dance music don't do that. So our goal is to make it DJ sets from all genres available online, on-demand streaming and you can interact with different songs, favorite/bookmark songs, find popular songs based on what other people are listening to, search for tracks and artists. Basically a better experience for listening to electronic music.

Yea we have sets on the website. We are starting with 9 mainstream sets from major DJs (mostly trance right now) and are expanding on a weekly basis. We get the TL from artist website and are tagged (split up) by the community, a few people right now.

Oh and yes, Mugasha is free.

This is pretty clever.

The interface is easy to use and extremely effective; I didn't have any problems with load times, unlike youtube and other streaming sites.

Once you get a wider range of decent sets up this should be quite good.

Two things:

1. Though the interface is pretty clean and functional, it's a bit large, and looks cartoony as a result. I'm running 1024 x 768 which is admittedly poor, but everything on the site looks huge. If things were cut down in size the site would benefit immensely.

2. I don't really listen to sets, but for people who do, I'm not so sure they'd want to keep a tab or window open purely to play music (I'm not sure why I think this). Perhaps you could implement a smaller window like DJ Download's player or an icon that minimises to the task bar.

Lastly, serious laughs at the muppet leaving this comment on A State Of Trance 360:

Going back and listening to some of the older sets, during the summer! oh wow, some classics here!

Classics in a set from July last year? Right...
