Wmc 2009

Me + 4 ; and we're all first timers.

I'm looking for some tips and pointers from those who have already been..

Which parties (clubs) are worth going to asides from the obvious UMF?

Where did you stay ?

What kind of loot did you spend ? Alcohol, food, hotel whatever (excluding the WMC pass)

Any locals spinning (asides from the obvious Tiga) ? ??

Should be sick as long as gas prices stay polite (road-trip)

I have to say the WMC pass has it perks and all but its not really worth it, but that is just me.

I did not drink that much anyways can't say how much I spent. As for staying somewhere not sure how much it cost, probably a bit over $1000 for a few days. Best bet check vbro.com, great website. Renting a condo is way more fun and cheaper then staying at a hotel, cost effective, such as you can go get groceries.

I ended up going to Pawn Shop the first night, then two other plays over the few days I was there. Forgot the names... one had Sasha & Digweed and the other one had 16 bit Lolitas.

After a 2 yr hiatus, going back to wmc for 3rd occasion, 23-30 March, renting a house in South Beach (near Nikki Beach), that a friend got off Craigslist (hope it doesn't end up being a scam hehe!) A few suggestions :

1- stay in South Beach area, otherwise you will pay for lots of cabs to the main parties. Renting a car may be worthwhile if you plan on doing things other than partying

2-sneak in whatever booze you can into the parties (not UMF though). Some of the prices for drinks are ridunculous

3-some parties are free - check several message boards to get the 411 on that and other helpful info (i.e. the wmc section of TA, clubplanet, cooljunkie, global undergound, Resident Advisor, etc...). We saw Zabiela and Fanciulli for free one night back in '06, and the BPM/Remix Hotel party was free too, with big-name dj's.

4-the smaller boat parties are a blast. We checked out Lawchair Generals (and other dj's), with the funkiest house music. Full-on party, ran out of beer, the boat did a 180 to stock up again. Seeing the Miami skyline with the sunset on a boat is an experience you won't forget.

5-don't go hardcore every night, your body will thank you

6-Go to Space at least once, and make sure you go on the terrace when the sun goes up (breathtaking). Usually big names every night, choose your fav night and go. This club closes around noon as it is downtown Miami. All the clubs in south beach close at 5AM.

7-UMF after party is totally worth it (if you like the particular dj line-up). If BBC Radio 1 throws a party, it should be good! We never bother with the wmc badges. Getting into a club is aprox $40, but this can fluctuate greatly in both directions. Wanttickets offers lots of pre-sales, good idea to buy in advance if the event is likely to sell out. Besides accomodations, I anticipate spending aprox $1000 on food, clubbing, taxis, drinks, etc... for one week.

8- WMC IS THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY YOU WILL GET TO SEE ANYONE WHO IS ANYONE IN THE EDM SCENE - CRAMMED INTO ONE WEEK. YOU WILL NOT GET THIS ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. PERIOD.

I've done Ibiza twice and IMO, you definitely get more bang with your buck with WMC.

Buy all your tickets in advance! You will be raped so hard at the door. Door prices are sometimes twice or three times the pre sale price.

oldskool94 : thx for the info.

Going as well this year for the 1st time. Went to Ibiza in 2005, so it'll be interesting to check out WMC, altough unfortunately I might only go to UMF day 2 (PvD, Armin, Above & Beyond, Carl Cox & more). I might check out PvD @ Space march 27th, but not sure since it'll be packed and also that Space @ 00h-6h and then UMF @ 12h-24h is a hard schedule at my age hehehehe

Posted by zokissima on Jan-19-2009 16:45:

IMO, Ultra is hardly worth it. If you go, GO EARLY. Later on in the day, the lineups for willcall and entry are enormous.

Go to Space at least once, and check out the terrace at least once. Other than that, there are shitloads of smaller hotel/beach/boat parties, and those are always fun.

if gas is something that is going to hurt your budget, miami is out of yours. Unless you have a lot of cash, you won't really have fun imo. Go to Detroit, see a festival with huge talent at a fraction of the cost. Use the cash you saved and book a week in Cuba if you need the beach that badly afterwards. So you just got a world class music festival (google sites that rate music festivals, DEMF always outscores Miami if you don't want to take my opinion), AND you were able to spend a week on a beach for a fraction of the price it would cost you to go party with every other noob just getting into dance music in Miami.

People who haven't gone always seem to expect something high class in Miami, when really it is no better than guido frat parties at high class prices. Basically it is mostly people who do not know any better.

Man, you are crazy.

The clubs in Detroit CANNOT TOUCH the clubs in Miami in terms of decor and especially sound. I would only go to Miami during the conference, (and I've been the past 5 years, so I know how to do it for cheap)but Detroit has a fraction of the talent of Miami, it's a niche market.

Besides, this thread is about WMC anyway, so why are you bringing up Detroit? If you aren't going to Miami, fine, but why would you even open up a thread about a event you don't like?

Posted by elFreak on Jan-19-2009 19:31:

because someone needs to tell someone who is worried about things like the cost of gas to get there, that the price of things in miami might not be a realistic goal.

most of DEMF is not club based, so i believe it is you who doesn't know what you are talking about. Enjoy sander k and eric prydz lol.

edit: i forgot DEMF doesn't install sick lazz0rs to reach for.

I know it's a mix of outdoors and indoors. Outside when it's cold and grey outside with sound that doesn't compare to some of the clubs in Miami indoor or outdoor.

Don't worry, those guys aren't my cup of tea.

I will pick between Victor Calderone, Chus and Ceballos, Dubfire, Radio Slave, Paul Ritch, Marco Carola, Peter Bailey and Richie Santana, DJ Vibe, Steve Lawler, etc.

I think I'll be bumping into you on several occasions this March !

Carola/Beyer/Picotto on the rooftop of Space at wmc '06 for Meganite was just outright straight-up techno insanity!

As for the those who are hijacking this thread, you likely woudn't appreciate us pissing on the DEMF parade / roll call thread when that is up....or maybe there won't be one if the not-so-big 3 don't get their bailout cash and can no longer be a sponsor of the event !

you could probably buy a house in detroit right now for the same price as going to WMC
