jules...where is the resemblence to the techno of old?

no shit...theres not really much difference from what is considered progressive house these days to "techno" from the little that i have heard

i downloaded and listened to a few sets and whilst i didnt mind some of the tracks the majority of it just sounded so boring that id prefer to be getting reamed by a fag at the Market*

* slight exageration

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jan-19-2009 01:56:

lol @ the exaggeration.

i dunno - i went down to f4 probably 2 months or so ago and had a listen - a lot of what i heard i woulda called techno - was rolling and pumping and not the progressive/tech house stuff that so often is called techno nowdays

progressive has kinda divided into a coupla catergories. you got your tech/house prog stuff and then there is the trancier, ploddyier more melodic stuff.

i kinda think the latter type of prog (prolly a little more traditional style) is gunna go thru a boom pretty soon

so if my predictions are anything like with trance its about 4 years off :/

Posted by Aesthetic on Jan-19-2009 02:21:

techno trance is the shizz

Melodic prog is already booming. Progressive psy is slowing down more and more, and the bass lines are becoming far deeper.

Check out this album: http://www.discogs.com/Tomic-My-Num...release/1558903

It hovers around 125-130 BPM, was released on a wholly psy-oriented label, yet is pretty much the same as the prog house from the mid '90s.

Check out the mix in my signature too (Twelve Hours).

Prog-psy is evolving and I like what I'm hearing nowadays. Most of them at around 130/135 bpm range though(a few NOK tracks comes to mind at 125ish).
My fav prog-house producer at the moment is Jerome Isma-ae. His productions/remixes are top notch and totally falls into Melodic prog category and gives an almost trance like feel.
His set at Earthcore was among the best and its a shame many people did not even know his name!

Posted by xmike on Jan-19-2009 11:20:

I agree with all the praise about jerome isma-ae, his productions and remixes are on par with the sweetness you get when you're licking whipped cream off a ripe virgins punani.

also on the prog side chris reece & dinka are really doing it for me. their collab 'autumn leaves' is nothing short of beautiful.

Posted by Light The Fuse on Jan-19-2009 23:01:

well if we are going down the prog path ill chuck in Cid Inc. & Victor Hugo - Green Valley [Victor Hugo Edit] as a wikkid melodic prog track.

Posted by XiTatiON on Jan-19-2009 23:22:

Here are some of my fav tracks from last year and at the moment. Get on it :P

Tulk - Igual <-- Epic prog/psy

D-Nox and Beckers - Something for your mind <-- More epic prog

Deep Forrest - Sweet Lullaby (Peter Fun Akasha Mix) <-- An oldie but a goodie even today still rocks the dance floor.

Ndsa - Circus Junkies <-- Love the synth/pad in this track more epic prog

Neelix - I Didn't Mean to Cry <-- can't stop listing to this track atm, melodic, hypnotic, fuck it makes my spine tingle when I listen to it.

Elegant Universe - Kinky Girl <-- Dirty electro/prog soundin shit. Slow and munty.

Thats all i'm bringin to show and tell this time class...

So... Techno...

Minus Orange still goes down quite well.

Posted by James Mac on Jan-21-2009 03:53:

Techno is good in small to medium sized doses.

I have a few mates who listen to it exclusively these days and it does get tiresome after 3+ hours.
