Mixer Woes

Well, the time has come and my friend has picked up the DJM-400 and i am mixerless. I have a stanton sk six but im really scared of hooking it up to my large speakers since they have a hiss on my little monitors.

My budget is around $1000 but i want to try and keep it under the grand mark. I REALLY want an ecler evo4 but man its really expensive.

My options from research are:
Mackie d.4
Ecler Nuo4
Korg Zero4

I would love to have a 4 channel mixer, but if there is a really nice 2 channel mixer setup i would love the feedback. Im kind of weary about the Korg because of the build quality.

I like effects, but none of these options have them besides the korg.

Suggestions?

Oh.. if anyone wants to sell me their evo4 for under a grand im all ears

ecler nuo 5? 4 channel mixer with effects. Not sure if it's under $1000, but here, I can get it for 760.

Yeah i was going to add the nuo5 last night, but man i was really sleepy haha.

Used Xone 42 or 62.

Rane Empath.

I would love a 42.. i cant seem to find a good used one though. The empath was one of the first ones i was looking for but the ones ive found are usually blue haha.

I would get the 62. Actually I did get the 62, but I would get it again.

I'd go with the Zero 4 in terms of most bang for buck. Next I'd do the Nuo 4.

I really want to feel the zero4 before i decide to get one. Im hearing horror stories about build quality, but i love the features that it comes with. I might spring a little extra for the nuo5.

Why would he want a 42 or 62 if he liked effects? They only have filters...

From what you want, I suggest the Korg Zero 4 or the nuo 5.

why not just get the DJM 700? Should be below a thousand...

I have been using the Empath (Black) for 4 years now and works perfectly. The black ones and the Grandmaster Flash signature editions are easy to find.

The only replacement I can see fit would be a Rane 2016.

Go for it. It's awesome. That Kaoss Pad is sick, 100 effects. My uncle has one and every time I play with it i feel like a 7 year old school girl.

edit: neither my uncle or I have experienced any problems with it so far so I don't know. I feels pretty solid if you ask me. The only thing I can complain about it is no digital out.

Xone 62 for $600. Spend the next $400 on an EFX or a Kaoss pad if you want effects. More flexible than a mixer with built in effects, assuming you think the effects loop will be adequate.

Agh! I found a evo4 on there for 1150.. i wonder if i could bump him down to 1000 flat. This was actually supposed to be a present from my girl but she isnt back from thailand yet.. heres hoping everything works out!

I don't like the Xone 62 at all. It's just a weird mixer. I played with one at Spundae and didn't like it one bit.

What options do you want on your mixer?

There's plenty of quality mixers for under $1000. But it all depends on what options you want. For instance, a great QUALITY BUILT Mixer for less than that would be a Rane TTM56S. But then again, there's no effects on it, and it's only a two channel.

I dunno what features you want so I can help you more.

Most important:
4 channel
build quality
Price (At most $1k but cheaper would be nice. Used but in good condition even nicer)

Nice additions:
Some kind of effects processor (could be a cheaper mixer + efx-1000 for instance)
Midi connectivity
Built in soundcard

My friends keep nagging me to avoid korg like the plague. Theyve even threatened to not be my friends anymore lol. I still wanna feel one before i can decide if its a good choice before i make the plunge. My friends were using the korg km-402 so i can understand why they hate it haha. Plus they are scratch djs anyways.

Ugh.. i found a korg zero8 for 899 - 10% no tax...

Yeah but the km and zero series are two different animals.

Im kind of worried about picking up the zero8 because of the hissing problems and whatnot. But man i like that price and the features that come packed with the zero8.

Posted by KiNeTiC ENeRgY on Jan-23-2009 19:01:

Rane and A & H have no hissing problems.

Posted by Waterproofpaper on Jan-23-2009 19:59:

Both rane and a&h are out of my range or dont come with the features i need. I think i might end up getting an ecler or the mackie. I just got to flip a coin and see which one is gonna be bought.
