Smiley DJ Parents + Trance = ?

Yo, I was thinking that it is most probably fairly obvious to your Parent/s that you really dig trance music (If they know its called that :haha.

Anyways, my mother is 39 and she really likes trance music to the point that it is her prefered listening (Maybe because she was in the New Romantics scene in the '80s ?), even though she may not be religiously devoted to it like I am she still thinks it is wiked and her fav. tune is even Mauro Picotto - Verdi & Silver Blue - Step Back...

Thats enough about my mother, the main reason why I posted this was because I am curious as to whether your parents dig trance as well or whether they think its just a pile of poo

laters,

mos

You like Cliff Richard ?

Posted by PatMcGroin on Jun-08-2002 23:09:

my mom loves trance
but she hates bass.....i swear i'll have my music so low and she still hears it all the way across the house!! she doesn't mind if she's not doing anything and i turn it all the way up, but if shes trying to do something, the bass will kill her....grrr....so close...so close

my dad is into led zepplin, deep purple, eagles type of music

but i don't live with either of them now, so its all good and i can keep my music up as loud as i want, well not from 10-8...DAMN QUIET HOURS...why do people have to study IN their dorms??? bastards

so no new sub atleast till i get my own apartment

he he I know, it was just a poor attempt at a joke

Posted by Nadi on Jun-08-2002 23:22:

Well my mom dosnt care either way. She dosnt particularly like it, but dosnt hate it either. She understand that each person likes something else and respect that. On the other hand my dad absolutley hates it, and I can only listen to it in my room w/ the door closed and the volume relativly low or on my cd player. Otherwise he gets all pissed of

Posted by Munken on Jun-08-2002 23:42:

My dad hates it, my mom kinda likes it but se likes all kinda music.
They never complain about the volume.

But my Grandfather... hehe that old man one day i where visiting them and as i where walking over to there apartment i heard this bass... not thinking about it i walk though the door, and there's my grandfather watching loveparade on some german station blasting away bangin' his head

Posted by elena on Jun-09-2002 01:06:

parent + trance =

...and i hate them for that

Posted by DJ Sunburn on Jun-09-2002 01:48:

my mom thinks trance is gross....lol...i dunno..thats what she said.

my dad disrespects it completly because of the monotony of all of the songs melodies...

my sister hates it... and i ask her watch she likes and she goes..."Music that's good to dance to!"

lol...she's a dumbass...forgive her...i can't but oh well

Posted by fastmp3 on Jun-09-2002 01:57:

my parents hate it to death , whatever i play they call it "TECHNO EVIL MUSIC" , and when i'm listening to my music on the computer i have to put my headphones instead of the speakers , otherwise either mom or dad comes and turns the speakers off

WHOA!? Are you for real? What a sound gramps! So does he really like it or was this a one-off ordeal? Hope you keep him from caning it too hard in the senior clubs.

My dad is just like your mum mos man, he was really into new wave in the 80's, also Jean Michel-Jarre, Jam and Spoon, and Tangerine Dream, and now really into trance, esp. dutch djs. It is sort of unnerving that my dad likes it, but at the same time we've had unreal family road trips! I also learn a lot from him in seeing how his taste evolved, and what genres mixed to create trance...

exactly how my mom is as well!!
If i let the headphones slip out of the socket while listening to some tribal prog, watch out!

cheers
Ilina

hahah same here
i think it's the bass that annoys them, especially my mother. she can hardly stand any of it. my father on the other hand sees my passion for it and respects it - sometimes even enjoys it and you can see him tapping to the beat on anything thats close to him.

so to answer your question, i don't find me having any problems with my trance mixing with the parents and causing problems. i give them respect by keeping it down (a bit haha!) and i get the pleasure of getting to listen to it all around the house

Posted by tranceaddict991 on Jun-09-2002 04:17:

my moms ok with it

"turn that crp off ----> my pop

Posted by Dj Zinni on Jun-09-2002 04:29:

my Mom likes it, because she was all into Disco in the late 70's and she swears to god that it is just like disco.

And all my dad says is "Close your door", to which I reply by turning up the level

Posted by Slylee on Jun-09-2002 04:40:

i drive my mom NUTS all the time...i am constantly like, "MOM! u HAVE to hear this one song..bla bla bla...doesnt it give u CHILLS" and she would just listen to it and be like, "ya honey it's nice" but i knew she didnt love it like i did...buuuuuut lately she told me she is REALLY getting into it...there is a radio station in miami 93.1 that place trance/dance and she told me the other day that is all she listens to in the car now. they may not play the newest stuff but it's a start! she even wants to go to a club with me some time! she is 50 and looks damn good for her age so i just might. that would be awesome she says she thinks that if she were to be at a club when a big dj was there, she would TOTALLY see the light and understand why i love it so much and play it constantly i played Starecase "Faith" Loafer remix and Southern Sun and she looves those!! she is really excited for me to get turn tables she wants me to be a DJ because she sees how passionate i am about music. she says she was the same when she was my age only w/ diff kind...when she was pregnant w/ me she would put headphones on her tummy and play like pink floyd and dire straights so i think MAYBE that's why i love music so much! hahah

and as for my dad is so mellow and open minded he doesnt care that i blast the stuff all the time (i live w/ him not my mom) and i even catch my dad tapping his hand on the steering wheel to my BEATS in the car...he digs it i can tell and he thinks it's awesome that i love music so much

my sister...umm i dont think she is the same blood as me..she likes COUNTRY! *CHOKE*

Posted by Endlesswave on Jun-09-2002 05:08:

Thumbs up :)

In my family my mom doesn't really like it but I do catch her bobbing her head to "Face to Face (Piano Mix)" and some others. My dad, I have no clue how he feels. My uncle on the other hand is loving Pvd which is pretty cool, ever since I got my 15 yr old cousin into trance (he was into commercial "rock" garbage ala rob zombie, limp bizkit etc" and he heard me listening to some trance and went out and bought "Out there and Back". Sweeeeeeeet. My brother on the other hand is a hardcore gino, ewwwwwwwwwww. Freestyle, euro (alllllllllll the cheeeeZe is his thing) and also reggae, hip hop and r&b. He thinks trance is just noize and has no patience for it. Makes me sick. I should consider taking my uncle with me partying once...heh. Would be cool.
