HappyHappy Ibiza 2009!!!!!!!!

This year I really have to say NO to WMC ( trust me it is hard and the arm twisting is starting to hurt) But this summer I am planing a trip to Ibiza!!!!!

I have been wanting to go to Ibiza for some time now! Was hoping before my dirty thirty but being a few months off is not to bad!

The plan of attack is to go Mid July. Staying for for 11 days.

When is the best time to book a flight? Most travel sits have package deal where you can get a flight and a hotel, would that be the best bet?

Also where is a good inexpensive place to stay???

Like the List for WMC is there a site for the events that happen at Ibiza?

Besides the night life what else should I check out??

I know I need to save about 4-5 G's for this trip

everything you need to know is here

I've been to Ibiza twice, and I feel like I need a third trip to experience everything I want to.

I'll be going back summer 2010.

Check out http://ibiza-spotlight.com for a lot of good info. You can link to forums, Party Calendar (club listings by date), hotel info, etc.

The island is quite relaxed outside of the main town centers. Make sure to go to San Antonio during the day to hit up the shops, bars, etc. And, of course, see the sunset at Cafe Del Mar (in SA).

I stayed in Talamanca when I went, which was a lot cheaper that Ibiza Town or Playa d'en Bossa, where many of the big clubs are. It's also really close to Pacha.

I will be going at the beginning of august !

Posted by fupaking on Jan-22-2009 17:34:

we were just looking at flights last night and found flights on Iberia starting at $500 on cheapoair! That was for September (I love September,
too hot in July!)

word on ibiza-spotlight...they just started posted links to the 09 calendar, they already have the dates for armada night. Going to try
to hit the closing party.

We were planning on WMC too, I have my room but no flight. The flight ain't cheap from SF!...I'm not seeing a whole lot of trance on the WMC calendar thread yet either, sort of has me unexcited, cause I probably would skip Ultra and Space. IT all could change though!

Don't bother. Its well overrated. Seriously, there's nothing to see there.

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jan-22-2009 17:42:

Playa Den Bossa... something like that

Hi Michelle

- Book a flight whenever, it doesn't really matter. There are many low cost carriers that operate during the summer that can get you from wherever you land in Europe to the Island. Spanair, EasyJet, Vueling, and Clickair spring to mind. The key will be to get a good airfare from LA to Europe, after that its very cheap.

- Mid July is a great time to go. Its quite busy although not yet at peak attendance which is generally during mid August.

- As for accomodations, its typically best to share a place with friends which of course makes it alot cheaper. A good place that is not expensive and definitely not a dump is Hotel Garbi in Playa D'en Bossa. Its walking distance to Space and Bora Bora and is right on the beach. You could find cheaper accomodation on the other side of the Island in San Antonio, but the downside is that its very British and staying there will not give you a proper flavor of what the Island is all about. Playa d'en Bossa is located not very far from the airport and is much more European, which imo is the way to go. There are also other places on the Island that have good rates. Check the Spotlight site as they have relationships with most hotels on the Island and allow you to make your reservation directly from their web site.

- The Spotlight Calendar (not sure where the link to the 2009 calendar is) is a good place to keep track of all the events. Once they get their dates in place, just bookmark it and watch it religiously to keep track of who is playing where.

A few other items that you may want to consider.....

- Rent a car. It will save you a lot of money in cab fares and is well worth it, particularly as it will allow you the chance to explore different places on the Island. You will not be sorry.... (speak up Josh Allen)

- Set aside a day of your trip to visit Ibiza's smaller sister Island - Formentera. Its absolutely beautiful and has some of the most pristine beaches in the Mediterranean. Set aside a day when you are not going out the night before, wake up at a decent hour and go to the Marina and catch the ferry to Formenerra and just chill for the day. Mandatory at least once imo.

- Set aside an afternoon or two to cruise around the Island to see various non clubbing related places like Blue Marlin, Salanas, Cap de Falco, various places in San Antonio, as well as Portinatx, San Miguel. Just get in the bloody car and drive and see where it takes you.

I look forward to seeing you guys there. I'll be there for much of the summer so give me a shout!

If you look, you can find good deals. I did 7 days a few years back and got flight from LA and hotel in Playa Den Bossa for about 1400. Hotel was right on the water, rooms were OK, but never spent much time there so no biggie. But, as I am sure others who have gone will attest, most of your $ is spent running around and partying. There are some ways to minimize that, but not many. I don't remember how much I spent, but I went out every night, did some day parties as well as rented a car for a few days and didn't feel too pinched, but you can see how you can go crazy if you wanted to and spend a lot.

well you know my experience girl, just wish you and i could have popped out ibiza cherry together but i am so happy that you are going.

sorry for the arm twisting about wmc, lol, but i just want you to go. i mean, $100 for the room for the whole weekend for you girl, twist, twist

you will have a blast and i can't wait to see all the pics i know you will take and hear all about your adventures.

and remember we're heading back for my special birthday in 2010 or 11 whichever works best for the group

I wanna go to Ibiza!!!

Posted by pnutttty on Jan-22-2009 19:57:

i just went this past july and loved it.

stay in playa den bossa - its close to space and bora bora.

do not stay in san antonio...its all 18 year old kiddos (kinda like the europe's version on cancun)

you must rent a car for a few days. the island has some very beautiful beaches and its easy to get around.

at the playa den bossa beach during the day, loads of people walking around with free entry wristbands to all the various clubs...but usually not worth it since you have to get there early.

i would STRONGLY sugguest buying tickets to the clubs - they sell them everywhere and you just have to shop around to get the best deal. all the major clubs have seperate entrances for folks with tickets and its cheaper also to buy in advance.

it will be one hell of an expensive trip, so save much bucks for it.

ha! The ticket thing sounds like Rosarito. You can buy wristbands in advanced for a lot cheaper than door price. Plus, they allow in and outs and you go through a separate entrance.

Been to Ibiza 3 times (12 years between the 3 times) and everytime was different and magical.

Stay the fuck away from San Antonio. Shithole, cheap (bad) take away food, drunk European kids (ahem) throwing up on the streets, just not a nice experience.

only thing it is good for is if you need to get drunk for cheap before going in to a club as they literally throw booze down your throat for pennies (i.e buy one beer get two shots free etc.). Anyone whose bought drinks in any of the major clubs knows you don;t want to try to get drunk in them unless you just won the lottery. If you do go to san an before a club to get drunk, just make sure you have a exit plan and don't get sucked in to staying.

Don't buy proper tickets to events. All the tickets reps (like you find outside mambo/del mar) have their comp tickets that they sell to make money (they make nothing off tickets), so make friends and get them to sell them theirs - it usually works out to be half the cost of a ticket.

Do the sunset outside del mar (you've got to once) but sadly it's like the 405 on monday morning morning now and the whole clapping thing was wierd too ( that never happened the first times I was there).

Playa den bossa is good and close to a lot of the action (space etc,) but I hate packed beaches and if you're the same then stay away.

A nice beach is Cala Salada just north of san antonio, not packed, good bar there and nice beach. You can swim along the bay to a really quiet beach there

Salinas has to been seen once and has good restaurants and bars but this is the posers beach and super rammed, parking is a nightmare so get there early if you're going to spend the day.

There are actually some really private beaches if you look (I'm not giving it away) but try the north west of the island and Cala LLonga while a bit touristy, has some excellent restaurants such as La Del Orto and 5KM (restaurant that turns in to a cool bar/club at night) is on the way there too.

Santa Getrudis (west/inland of San Antonio) also has a great strip of french, Italian and Spanish Cafe's / restaurants which are really charming at night at good prices and not many tourists.

Ibiza town is nice to look at for a day but seriously expensive (even compared to the rest of Europe).

You need to decide on what you want to spend. Ibiza is ridiculously expensive, so either save up a lot, get a villa, finca or small apartment and do it in style, or just go totally cheap, get a crap hotel and just use it to sleep there. Don;lt bother with 3 or 4 star hotels - they are all shit and not worth the serious increase in money. You're better off going 2 star and just sleeping there.

I stayed last time off the beaten track but got my own really finca (small farm house) and it was beautiful and cheap. The only problem was it was a 20 minute drive ti anything.

Also, make sure you can drive stick - there are hardly any automatics there and they charge you more for them.

As for flights, you can fly to London for cheapish and loads of dirt cheap airlines fly (albeit at weird times) to Ibiza from there. Otherwise fly to Madrid or Barcelona and there are many flight a day to IBZ for cheap too.

Posted by mar46017 on Jan-22-2009 21:41:

The ibiza-spotlight site is prob the main site on the island. I stayed in Playa d'en Bosa and in Santa Eulalia. Santa Eualalia is more calm/family type whereas in Playa d'en Bosa there is always action.

I took everyone's advice and stayed away from San Antonio, however I wished I did check out a Cafe Mambo sunset.

As far as flights. See if you can get a cheap flight to Paris, Barcelona or Madrid. From there take vueling airlines (www.vueling.com) to Ibiza. However, they will get you on extra kilograms over 20. (Ryan Air is even worse w/ 15kg max) That was a year and a half ago, so it might have changed, so read the fine print!

I'm sure you'll know the schedule beforehand so you'll know where you will go. You might need a night off here and there for recovery. I went for 7 nights and was able to party 5 of the nights. (took off the second night, went for another 4 nights, and took off Sat night.)

It's weird there because you buy party favors from the restaurant owners, security and workers. As a general rule, "Don't buy from the Moraccans or the looky looky darky darky" lol I love that line...heard it from a number of the locals.

It's like Vegas, where it is easy to find uppers and hard to find weed. (they say, "It is not growing season" When the hell is growing season? It's always growing season in California!) You are more likely to find hash, since the Moroccans flood the market and it is easier to smuggle I guess.

10 days might be a bit much. The place is fun and all. But it also has a dirty/nasty I wanna get the hell out of here feel to it after a while as well.

While in the area look into other European cities such as Barcelona, Spain, Paris, France...maybe Germany, Italy (Rome, Florence and Venice...all a super fast train ride away)...other party islands such as Mykonos, Greece. (most party islands such as Ibiza and Mykonos are predominately gay for some reason)The islands in Greece were nice, but I found the cities on the mainland such as Athens pretty dirty.

Vueling and Ryan Air are you best bets for cheap flights. (If you packed light)

Enjoy! You will love!

PS - Watch out for 10 euro bottles of small water and 15 euro cans of Red Bull at the clubs! And they don't really give tips much in Europe...they don't expect a tip and cus you out if you don't like the bartenders do here. Only if you feel they went above and beyond normal service.

quick question...a lot of u suggest renting a car...do u reccomend then driving to the clubs or taking the disco bus? and if u drive are there parking lots around to park at?

Posted by AbcGum on Jan-22-2009 21:56:

We had a car for getting around during the day. If you're partying at night just take a cab or something.

Posted by pnutttty on Jan-22-2009 23:36:

take cabs at night, while it costs more, is alot safer for ya.

renting the car during the day is a must do...only way to get to some of the private beautiful beaches...

Never drive your car to a club. You do NOT wanna be driving around Ibiza drunk after a club. Take the disco bus its a truly amazing experience once I took it from San An to Amnesia and along the way a group of super super hot Spanish girls came on board and then she insisted she sits on my lap lol its just a lovely culture!!

I do! I just don't wanna go alone!

Posted by sweetcandy girl on Jan-23-2009 04:05:

Thanks for all the information guys!!!!! Got some research to do now

I know 11 days is a good vacation but there are certain nights and Dj's (Markus, Ferry and Armin) that I want to see. I wish I could see other places/ countries as well but there is that whole money thing that gets in the way. All ready going to have a tough time saving up what I need!

When it comes to hotels it doesn't matter where I stay! Shoot stayed for a week at the Starlight for WMC.. just need a place to rest put my things and shower! What about Hostels? how are they???

Keeping my fingers crossed that the exchange rate will still be good! Would rather spend 4G's then 6!

Posted by Hypersky on Jan-23-2009 05:08:

4 grand for 11 days on the Island is more than enough, especially if you are splitting the cost of your room and car. If you do get a car, make sure you reserve it well in advance. This is a good year to visit since the dollar is stronger against the Euro than in previous years.
