This is an hour of music inspired by one of my favorite local spots here in Wisco. I've really, really missed being out at clubs the last few months, and was just so happy to find a place near home I could call my own. As many of you know, spinning records is basically therapy for me - finally having a home base here (regardless of the fact that I'm out of here in a few months) has been an amazing blessing for me.

I truly hope a few of you enjoy this.

Best,

RJT

Down like a clown.

this is probably one of my favorite mixes i've heard from you. i really enjoyed the selection of tunes, the flow was great, and the mixing was tight (as always).

stand-out tracks were the vocal track at 19 min, and the track at 33 minutes which had a great sax line and twinkly noises... and the vocal reminded me of Jason Randolph - Stimulation. also nice to hear Sucre and Destination Earth.

good stuff.

I was waiting for that to come up.

In truth it's named after a lounge in Appleton I'll be playing at with some regularity, website: http://www.thespeakeasybar.com/

Really just a great vibe the place has - very open audience, and their two residents are about as sound as it gets at combining hip hop and house, and as that's what people up here are really in the market for most nights, it's been pretty impressive to go in there and actually really, really enjoy listening to that stuff being mixed.

I'm hoping I'll be doing a monthly night of house and techno, and then will hope be playing the early sets as many weekends as I can (i.e. playing from 8-11).

Either way, they definitely have a crowd that can get down to a wide range of music, and this is definitely the stuff that comes readily to my mind when I think of the place.

Hope some of the rest of you enjoyed this too - thanks to those who've listened already.

Damn, you have no idea how jealous I am. I have been trying to get a gig like that forever. Looks very theraputic. Congrats, dude.

Haven't given this one a listen yet, but I'm putting it on the Blackberry and it's next up on my list.

Dude, 04. Lee Jones - Aria (Tiger Stripes Remix) [Aus Music] ...love this tune. One of my favorites from summer. On the DL.

edit: I'm halfway in and it's been awesome so far, really good track selection and groovy-relaxing vibe you've got, making my reading "one flew over the cuckoo's nest" quite enjoyable. I'm going snowboarding now, but I'll make sure to listen to the last half later.

Posted by PoisonJam19 on Jan-26-2009 19:04:

Excellent. This was so good, it actually made cleaning my apartment an enjoyable task... almost...

Lovely melodies throughout, it really had a nice atmosphere. I'm looking forward to giving this another listen.

Great start here! Amazing feeling with Ducktales which is very relaxing but awesomely emotional at the same time. Kink-A-Jou's another great tune from Ada, gonna have to check out more.
This Gonno track is really nice and spacey. I love tracks like this. Definitely gonna pick this up. Tiger Stripes comin through with sweet and driving and deep Aria remix. Sunday is ok; not really my style. Awww yea, now we have a sick remix of Newcleus. Have you heard the von Stroke and Galen Disco Kryptonite mix? The transition into Dirt Bag works really well. It's awesome when incoming vocal samples fit well over the previous track's outro. Innocent Lovers track is nice. Really like the glassy bells in it. On to Le Groove Rhodes! Supa deep dark track with cool reverb on the percussion. Beautiful but Weird describes itself perfectly. Nice spacey drive with odd reversals and delays sprinkled through it. Sucre and Beat Fiend are ok; not that much into their sound. Nice ending with Newclus! Totally Peter Gabriel sounding.
Favs for this set 01,03,08,13. I liked it

Outstanding.

Basteroid's intro is very Commodore 64-ish, which is always a plus with me since I have a huge crush on the SID chip. Wow, didn't ever expect to hear you open a set with a breakbeat... a pleasant surprise! This track is so cool. I love the vocals, percs, and everything about it. Fantastic choice.

Vocals at 18:29 are amazing. I've been really getting into some vocals lately, when they are as well done and tasteful as this. Also, great horns in this track.

Whoa, another breakbeat... where are you finding breaks tracks that sound like this? I had no idea this stuff existed.

Love when the decay of the lead comes all the way on around 28:35... hypnotic.

At this point in the set, someone entered my office and I wasn't able to sit here and jot down notes for pretty much the remainder of the set, but I was still listening intently and all these tracks are fantastic.

Wow, Destination Earth is awesome.

You've truly outdone yourself on this one, Rob. My favorite from you thus far. Not a dull moment.

Posted by Sushipunk on Jan-27-2009 06:42:

Absolutely wicked set Rob! I'm not going to lie to you - The idea of you spinning some breakbeat-ish stuff into your sets gives me a bit of a semi. It worked really well, that opener was niiiiice. Chilled breaky stuff is among my fav genres

Not that I'd expect anything less from you, of course
