It is literally the perfect controller for Ableton. I can't wait to get my hands on one...

hmmm yeah... we should meet up sometime... ive been trying my best to get up to speed on ableton...

would be nice to have an ableton buddy!

(especially one who lives in the same time zone much less the same continent! lol!)

Posted by progress on Jan-28-2009 04:45:

We should (we need to anyways, haven't seen you in forever). I'm just really diving into it right now, trying to learn the in's & out's of using it. I just got a new Evolution UC-33e today to try and start using a controller instead of the good ol' keyboard & mouse.

btw, Abletonlivedj.com.....

yeah.. i finally bit the bullet and got a mac pro which ive been needing for aaages... the ole pc... well... she had her tour of duty but... lol... just needed something more robust...

aaanyway... so still in the midst of trying to get this beast up and running... myyy oh my lol

but yeah, really want to get better with ableton, even though i know i wont be using this for **recording** my vocals - as far as i hear.. the quality just isnt up there as it should be... but for other things... ideas etc, this would be ideeeal

Right now, I won't use Ableton to record unless I just make a set in it. I lost an entire show last year that I recorded with it because it has a buffer issue. I'm not sure if they have fixed it in 7, I was using 5 at the time.

iiiinteresting!

i thought so!

ive tried recording into it whilst monitoring live... i use an audio interface - maudio profire 610 which SHOULDNT have a problem, but its one of the other upgrades i made after switching to the mac...

so i couldnt decide if it was an issue with my other new hardware or ableton... was extreeemely frustrating, but the problem is significant enough that you cant really monitor live whilst recording... fruuustrating..

but again, for other things, i guess i can deal... just considering how that issue might play out in a live set etc?

Posted by progress on Jan-28-2009 05:07:

You shouldn't have any issues with the 610 at all. Were you assinging the monitoring to a separate channel? That's one of the kickbacks of Ableton, in order to monitor, you have to set it to a separate channel in your audio interface.

I haven't recorded anything in a long time, I pretty much took a year off and am just now getting back into it. But, I have a MBox2 Mini that came with Pro Tools LE which works really well for recording.

hmmmz.... i dunno... but it was slight... but when youre singing this is a big issue... a tiny delay is so disorienting.

i duno, maybe i could promise to cook you dinner one night and sucker you into looking at it for me **hides**

Posted by progress on Jan-28-2009 05:13:

Definately!

I'm not sure about a delay though, I've never heard of that. There shouldn't be one in a software program, that's most likely a hardware issue.

i adjusted it in the program... there is a latency control... but it never got low enough... was crackling and horrible and blah blah

i think its just ableton... dunno

Posted by progress on Jan-28-2009 05:24:

Hmm, that's weird. Let me do some digging around and I'll get back at ya.

yep,

especially since the issue isnt present in crappy garageband on the mac os - only in the windows os using ableton

I used Ableton 6 on my friend Tony's mac and it worked perfectly...come windows on my old PC and the latency was unreal. Then I upgraded to 7 and it got even worse. So I just got mad and now I'm on day 5 using my quad core, 16gb RAM custom built PC

just waiting on a fuse for my axiom 61 I ordered and the Firewire 410 to come in the mail, then we're on. If it fails again, eBay will have a feast next week.

I use it on Windows and have no issues. You can adjust the buffer settings in Ableton, you may have them set too low.

It sounds to me like its a problem with your OS or something with you computer. There is a way to adjust the Buffer Size in Options > Preferences > Audio. I have mine set at 768 samples, and it runs perfectly fine, while running 4-5 VST synths with send/return effects. No latency problems here.

I don't think its a software issue, my copy of Ableton7 is cracked...and works fine.

So....dont diss the software when it might be your computer

Well on my older piece of kangaroo shit PC, i used V-Station and the latency would eventually get worse. I actually tried it here last night, hit cntl-alt-del and watched my cpu performance meter....and all 4 stay around 2%, which is magnificent

We'll see here in a few days when I get that fuse for my midi controller. In the meantime I'll mess around with the buffer settings. Thanks for the heads up doodz.
