No more Future's Bakery patio? (thanks to our good friend Adam Vaughan)

quote:
'Dear Residents,

On Monday, January 26, the new owners of Future Bakery and the Labyrinth Lounge, in cooperation with the Harbord Village Residents' Association (HVRA) and Councillor Vaughan, will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the establishments' patios. The new owners would like an opportunity to meet with the community to listen to concerns about the patios and brainstorm strategies to mitigate noise.

Date: Monday, January 26, 2009

Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Location: The Walmer Centre, 188 Lowther Ave

In order to use the patios, the new owners of Future Bakery and the Labyrinth lounge must apply for a transfer of the patio licences. In the fall, the owners applied for a patio licence for the Labyrinth Lounge, and Councillor Vaughan objected to the transfer. As a result, City staff denied the application and notified the applicant.

Once the Councillor refuses an application, it is up to the applicant to file an appeal with the City. Once an appeal is filed, Toronto and East York Community Council (TEYCC) considers the request at a public meeting and will decide whether or not to approve the patio.

Councillor Vaughan is aware of the local neighbours' ongoing concerns about the operation of this patio and the concentration of activity at Brunswick and Bloor. We have been clear with the applicant that the Councillor will not support his application until the local neighbours are satisfied.

Documented feedback from the community will be necessary when and if an appeal is presented to TEYCC. This information is also important for coming to a common understanding with the business owner/applicant.

Those who are unable to attend the meeting on January 26 are invited to send their comments to our office at

[email protected]'

Kind of late for the public meeting for those that live in the area.

I really hope this isn't true. Future's is one of my favourite places to hang out in Toronto.

We can once again applaud the chief of the fun & noise police Adam Vaughan for this.

I don't know what makes me angrier... him, or the people that actually voted for him.

Posted by MarkT on Jan-27-2009 03:05:

wtf is this asshole's problem?

seriously...he needs to move to the outer burbs.

clearly the big bad noisy city is not for him.

Posted by dEsidEL on Jan-27-2009 03:22:

i read this not long ago and thought.. wow in a city where outdoor patios are already scarce this guy wants to get rid of what's left.. he just doesn't quit does he?

Posted by slingshot on Jan-27-2009 03:29:

Is this guy a communist? Is he going to start pushing for a centrally planned economy next?

Posted by activate on Jan-27-2009 03:51:

LOL.. you just gave me the greatest idea.

I'm going to pay to have a couple thousand posters put up during the next municipal election that say "Adam Vaughan is a Communist".

Posted by Sentinal on Jan-27-2009 03:54:

I really hate this asshole. If there are people in the trinty spadina ward reading this, PLEASE dont vote for this douche, let go back to journalism. (wait that might be just as bad come to think of it)

Dear Residents of Toronto.

You live in a city. Within reason, there will be noise. When choosing to live in an area that has a number of restaurants, bars, cafes close by, there will be slightly more noise.

If you do not like this, there are a number of quiet neighborhoods within the city that you are able to move to. I have lived in three different areas of Toronto, and have never had a noise issue - so it's not like these are hidden gems that are difficult to find.

Failing that, the Suburbs of Mississauga, Oakville, etc are not that far of a commute away and will allow you to live in a dome of silence.

---------

While I have slightly more sympathy for owners who own their property, and have been long-standing owners in areas that exploded in a short period of time, I have far less sympathy for renters, especially ones that moved into these areas recently.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Jan-27-2009 14:39:

Do you honestly think places like Mississauga and Oakville are quiet?

If you want quiet then you need to move to Cambellville, Acton, Georgetown, and Milton.

Heck, I live in Milton and all night long I hear cars zooming down the street.

Posted by kaniz on Jan-27-2009 15:07:

Haven't spent that much time in Oakville, but from the few days I spent there - was very quiet compared to Toronto. I could actually hear crickets chirp in his backyard at night. Biking around the City was eerily quiet also. Hardly any cars on the roads, even less people. The biggest noise pollution was his neighbor mowing the lawn.
