What is this effect sound called?

I was wondering, what is this sort of effect sound called:

And where to start to create a similar sound?
It's not really just a cymbal hit or a crash?
I think that sort of sounds were used in late 90's songs...

That sample is 13 seconds long with about 2 or 3 different effects in it. Which one? What second is it exactly at?

I mean the "hit" sound.
It first comes right in the beginning about 00.01 and another time at 00.05. I think it sounds bit like a hit or some sort of crash...

As for a name for the style of 'effect,' well I'm not aware of anything. A Stab, maybe? But that's very broad and non-specific descriptive...

It's not a cymbal, nor a percussion hit. It's a synthesizer, playing the the tonic(and maybe some other less audible notes) in an upper octave. If the note were held, it'd sound a bit like like pad, like an old-school 'strings' patch(that of course doesn't sound like strings at all). But in this case, the artist put a quick attack and decay, and a little longer release on the amplitude envelope.

I can't guess how you would replicate it, really. But here's some thoughts on how to get in that ballpark. Find(or make) a pad patch... This may take some sifting to find one that works to your taste... Open up it's filter cutoff so that you get all the high frequencies. Chord the sucker up. Use multiple octaves, try putting in a 3rd, a seventh, whatever. That's not my strong suit anyways, just experiment. So that when you hold down the chord, it's real thick and loud.

Now mess with the amplitude envelope. Make sure it's attack is pretty much immediate. You could choose to set the sustain up higher, so that it plays as long as you hold the note. Or you could choose to set the sustain to zero, so that the note only plays for as long as the decay dictates. Your call. You probably want some release. Experiment to taste. Matter of fact, this entire process will require a lot of experimentation.

Yeah, it sounds like one of those "orchestra hit" patches you can find in some samplers, pitched up pretty high.

in a slightly related question -
that sample seems to be built up of strings and some sort of very short percussion (at the attack) - what is the percussion?

Can't really tell.

Some orchestra hit samples have timpani drums in them.

Its one of those orch hit , i remember fl studio had lots of orch hits in its packs.

To me its sounds like a hit off my Roland xv-5050 and Roland D2/505 Groovebox! But i think you can find a patch like that off korg and Yamaha!
