Replicating this airy sound

This is from an old trance track produced in 1998. It was obviously created with hardware. I was wondering if anybody here had any bright ideas to get something similar, or exactly like it, with all the great software & stuff we have now. thanks.

Sounds like a roland d-50 or similar. Probably could replicate the sound with korg wavestation, atmosphere/omnisphere.

Sounds like a sawish synth run through a bandpass filter combined with what sounds like noise run through a phaser. The right side is slightly lower in volume but has more high frequency content. Also there's a bass sound playing a lower note at the same time, probably a saw.

Good old Ferry.

jv1080 for me.

it's a preset with some tweaks

long decay that fades out, a little release.

So what's the verdict ?!?! I obviously don't have the hardware. Any suggestions with VST's? I've got z3ta+, octopus, blue, vanguard, analog factory, synth 1

I doubt ure ever going to be able to recreate this sound.
I think most of the sound is in the actual chord it is playing.

gotta find out if omnisphere has those waveforms...

Agreed. I gave it an unsuccessful whirl myself, but I came up with more questions than answers. The first problem is figuring out if theres multiple synths in that stab (The bass note?)... Second, figuring out all the notes that are happening in there... Third, figuring out whether oscillators are transposed within the patch itself, or whether the chords are all in the midi. Fourth,... Well shit my heads hurtin already. This is why i just backspaced it all out when i started replying in this thread the first time.

Since it's old, chances are it isn't that complex. probably not many oscillators... But shit. I have no clue.

I thought you were selling that Laurent?

I was going to ask a while ago, was that because you didn't like it?

Here's my 15-minute attempt with my Virus - it's not exact, but it's pretty close. The envelopes are off a bit, I think:

I used two sounds - the pad and a saw-based bass sound.

Yeah, that's pretty good. You got the notes and the basic timbre right, but I think the attack is too fast on yours. Also the original has some phasing in it. Yours sounds nice, though.

Yeah, I agree. The original sounds like it "swells" a bit more than mine does as well, so the decay/sustain on the amp env on mine could use some adjustments as well. Thanks for the compliment.

If anyone has a Virus TI and wants to work with the patch, shoot me a PM and I can send it to you.

Why does that matter lol makes no difference

I love trying to replicate sounds. I'm going to make some threads on cool sounds to re-create.

And we are very glad you do, if only more did!

Over on dogsonacid, they always got big dnb producers sharing their secrets, so its nice to have trance legends offering their tips uo.

you can find many of them for 250$ on eBay; It's a BARGAIN. I miss my jv1080 too. The modulation section was quite complete for a synth of that kind.

Posted by StephenWiley on Feb-02-2009 06:00:

well my only concern is are you certain it's a jv 1080 preset?

if not a preset, I can assure you that the waveform is JV/XP/XV. So basically if you get a jv1080 or 2080, an xp50 or 80, or an xv2020, you'll be good. It's 100% roland, and the airy pad is really easy to reproduce.

Well, you have to know how to program synths. I spent years in getting the best out of digital synths such as this one. My favorite is the JD800 alongside with the Trinity From Korg ad god I wish I could afford a second hand unit of those. So, you can be sure that I know what I'm talking about.

Posted by StephenWiley on Feb-02-2009 06:20:

I see. Any softsynths I can purchase that can make this sound?
