That Deadmau5 bass
I really love the bass on a lot of deadmau5's tracks. The one that comes to mind is the bass in Reward is More Cheese. I've always just made trance but im ready to start making new stuff. Any one got any tips on how I can get that Deadmau5 bass. This seems to be the only thing I can't seem to make. Im still pretty new to producing so please keep that in mind if you reply.
Thanks!

Lets E-mail Deadmau5 and ask him
Buy a Little Phatty. Pull up a bass preset at random. Find a drum loop. Learn to play one note over the drum loop ad nauseum while adding some pitch modulation. There - you're deadmau5.

You guys can keep talkin crap about the mau5, I know people don't like his music but, honestly I have never heard any producer from any genre make sound, sound as good as he does. That might make his head a little too big but, its true. I am not trying to make music like his, but, I am trying to achieve the same or higher quality.
As for his bass, maybe he does use hardware but, you can achieve it with software, just keep practicing. Sound is sound, I am a true believer that you can achieve the same with software as with hardware, you just gotta know what you are doing. I know this is not a big help but, I am still trying myself.

| He probably smirks at people who talk up his sound, knowing anyone with the same setup can get it |
You guys truly believe that all that hardware is better than soft?I mean some of it you can't get in soft, but, like the Minimoog by Arturia I think sounds pretty awesome. I just believe if you work hard at it you can get just as good of sounds out of your daw. It might take more work but, I can tell you one thing, I for one in this economy cannot afford all that hardware. So I just keep trying, and I feel like I am making big strides with every track that I do. Maybe hardware is better, and maybe I will have some more someday, but, for now I will stick to sampling and softsynths.

He is a good marketing ploy, if he says 'i use ...... for my bass', everyone will rush out and buy it whether he uses it or not
Hardware isnt a necessity, listen to some stuff by Eric prydz
Keep in mind that Deadmau5 judging from one of his youtube videos uses external mastering done by professionals who mixdowns each channel for him.
Far out some of the stuff in this thread could get me worked up... If I took internets seriously.
1/ Don't sound like Deadmau5, he killed his own sound, which takes some effort. You don't need to bandwagon jump, because the bandwagon's already full of Joel and I think even he realises it.
2/ His music IS extremely well engineered. He took it too far, but he really knows how to use very simple elegant sounds to get a great impact. Don't disrespect that.
3/ Hardware will not make you sound like him. The fact that he has hardware is not the reason for his success. FFS. You can make the sounds in software well enough, its just that they aren't presets on software, it actually takes effort.
4/ Ry Thomas makes a very good point. I brought it up in another similar thread that its been claimed that deadmau5 used no less than 3 or 4 different synths for his signature sound, and I've heard convincing reproductions on another 5, hardware AND software. What it proves is that it doesn't matter what he uses, and he knows it. People started off saying he used a nord, then said he used a voyager, now he claims that he uses an FXpansion synth which isn't even releaed yet. Smells fishy to me...
Faxing berlin lead was v station , or maybe its hardware equivalent preset retro 5 , arped and sidechained , i started to remix it , but halfway through i changed to pjanoo.
I bet that if Deadmau5 was in any of your studios, he`d be pulling out gems within the hour.
just him?? , what about his sidekick aswell?
