Tonight! Damian Lazarus & Three in San Franciso - Updates

Roam Music is proud to host two of the undisputed leaders in underground dance music, Damian Lazarus, head of East London's famous Crosstown Rebels Label, and Hallucination Limited's Three, one of the brightest DJ talents in the world today, on their return trip to San Francisco for an intimate evening of twisted techno, house and forward thinking music.

The heads of these fine transatlantic underground electronic labels will converge at a legendary 150 capacity black-box environment that houses a high-definition multichannel 360-degree audiovisual system for one special Valentine's Saturday night, February 14th, in our first party of 2009, AudioKinesis: Raw Goggin. We look forward to another stellar installment of their roaming U.S. party: REBEL NATION. San Francisco DJ’s Nikola Baytala and John Wander will be providing support on the bill.

“Damian Lazarus plays the best underground records in the world" (DJ Magazine). His varied career, from editor of style mag Dazed and Confused, to the City Rockers record label(UK home to Tiga and Felix Da Housecat) and finally to the buzzing Crosstown Rebels label, has led him to Southern California, where is his taking winter residence in sunny and warm Los Angeles. Damian’s DJing antics take him weekly to some of the best clubs around the globe, the craziest festivals and most dirty and sweaty underground parties. Not forgetting all the marathon after party DJ sessions! 2009 is firmly set up to be yet another special year --with global anticipation for his upcoming solo artist album. We are looking forward to hearing some of the new Lazarus productions on February 14th.

Currently residing in New York City, Three has been tirelessly holding the flag for underground electronic music in the US since his rise out of the sunny state of Florida in the early 90's. His Hallucination Limited label is about to be available digitally for the first time in 2009 exclusively with Beatport. An incredible backlog of notoriously hard to find releases (some with new, digitally exclusive mixes) will precede a wealth of new material. A sample of artists to look out for include Terry Francis, Pier Bucci, Reverse Commuter (the new project of Ken Gibson aka [a]pendics.shuffle), Adultnapper & Mr C as Sycophant Slags, King Britt in his techno guise of Nova Dream Sequence and US dance legends Rabbit in the Moon.

Three has a wide ranging musical palate akin to Andrew Weatherall or Laurent Garnier, and was recently featured as part of DJ Times Magazine’s DJX20 Anniversary profile series as one of twenty DJs who embody the spirit of the American underground along such contemporaries as Josh Wink and Claude Von Stroke. He returns from a successful trip to Europe with huge gigs including a set at Goa Madrid's famous New Years Day party, as well as London's Fabric.

Please check our site at www.roam-music.com for the Raw Goggin' facts, ticket giveaways and updates on this party. We believe that good music combined with a high quality sound system and a unique location are the basic elements for creating the right vibe and a true Roam Music Experience.

Thank you for being open to new sounds.

As part of the series of blogs leading up to AudioKinesis: Raw Goggin on Feb. 14, we wanted to ask Damian Lazarus a few questions about his adopted new home, Los Angeles.

Having spent all his life in London, Damian said he was ready for a change of scenery. Damian is loving his new place under the southern California sun. "My place has amazing views, I'm living in a very green and beautiful part of town and I have amazing family and friends very close by."

Roam Music: Welcome to California Damian, what is it now, going on almost your fourth month living in Los Angeles? What are your thoughts about the move to the states.

Damian Lazarus: I'm loving it; especially the Hollywood night show featuring stars, helicopters and beams of light.

RM: What has been the most challenging aspect of your recent experience?

DL: Moving the bins every Tuesday night.

RM: How are you accommodating to the famous LA Rush Hour Traffic?

DL: Note to self, don't touch the car when the Dodgers are playing at home.

RM: What are some things you look forward to doing around San Francisco?

DL: Can't wait to play at this venue we are having our party at on February 14th, it's gonna be wild and ridiculous.

RM: What do you think of the underground music scene in California now that you've had more of a chance to be around it.

DL: It's very cool; look out for Freaky Sundays parties this year and me on the roof at The Standard.

RM: What's the number one thing we should be looking forward to from Damian Lazarus in 2009?

DL: My album, of course, out in May. And my debut single, Moment, available now on Beatport.

Thanks bro.

Totally excited about this one... a little sneak peak into the sound set up to wet appetites?

* The room will be set up in multi channel 5.1 stereo.

* The speaker array is set up to have 8 speakers above, 8 speakers waist high, and subs under each column, if you will.

* There is a speaker in each corner of the room and half way in between there is another speaker creating the unique 16 channel surround system.

* Expect lots of weird patching to make upper sounds and lower sounds.

OK, you all can stop now, hehe.

I got a ticket just in case I headed out tonight, but I'd have to take a cab there and that'll be costly from out here in the outter sunset. And cabs are hard to get out here at night cause the cab companies can't force drivers where to go, so often a stupid long wait. It'd prob be best for me to take the train (it stops right out in front of me) to downtown to powell steret since it's usally easy to get a cab there and then hope the cab driver is willing o take me way out there...sure I can hitch a ride with one of you when it's time to leave, righhtt??

What's a good time to show up? Weather will be a big factor on whether I head there...chances are I'm gonna end up real wet if it's bad outside. Hopefully it holds off...weather people here suck and are often wrong. This storm was suppsoed to hit mid-day today as of yesterday morning...by last night they were saying it'll hit us late tonight.

I lost my ZipCard or I'd just get a ZipCar for the night and this all wouldn't be an issue....damnit, I was supposed to replace it on Tuesday and forgot to.

Posted by DaveT on Feb-15-2009 12:04:

!

Well, fuck me....decided to go after it was pretty good after midnight, called c taxi...and then fell asleep. Think the cab showed up like 40 minutes after I called because got a few missed calls from a number I don't know and guesing them trying to tell me they are outside.

See, ten minutes after I'm officially old, I doze off ilke an old geezer.

Knowing my luck, gonna hear epic stories abotut his night for the next few weeks...

Got there at 3ish and Lazarus was on! Everyone was telling me how sick Three was but man Lazarus was good too! Friends didn't like him though so they left within an hour and I decided to get a ride out of HP as I was so exhausted and had to go help set up my dad's funeral at 8:45AM... Rich text me at 8:29AM telling me to "come back to the compound, no end in sight..." ...motherfraker!

I saw a few first timers at the com# including Jon Long, Ish, Karina and this bartender chick Ish introduced me to a few weeks back. All were having a great time! Jon and Karina thanked me for telling them about the party

Hopefully next com# party I don't have family priorities. Yet I don't regret anything. As bummed out as I am about my dad, I had a great time with family esp from my dad's side that I haven't seen or even talked to in 10-15 years since my parents got divorced. Going to try to hang out with them more often and maybe even go visit some of them in Texas and LA.

edit: Thank you Hank of ROAM and everyone else involved. Esp for splitting up my will call, thanks!!!!!

Awesome night, awesome venue. Wish Three had played longer as he was knocking out a darker sound that was pretty intense in such a small dark room. Damian killed it too, loved the efx and vocals he threw in.

rizo, sorry to hear about your dad dude.

rich, i went outside for a smoke and got offered a ride to a cab so i kinda bolted out of there quick in the rain (9:30ish maybe?). thanks for the ride offer though, felt bad about not getting back in there to let you know...

clovis, nice meeting ya! i'm sure i'll see you around more often once i'm out of winter hibernation mode.

good times!

Thanks. And agree with you on Damian, he had SO MUCH going on! I remember getting inside and seeing the booth set up with a ton of gizmos! Oh man, 9:30ish? Sounds so fraking epic even with the rain! Guessing this will beat out Dan Bell at the com# from November?
