I'm going to be a Wedding Photographer
Ahhh I'm so excited i recently just bought a Canon Rebel XSi kit and a 75-300mm lens. It's my first SLR camera and as soon as i touched it I fell in love and jizzed my pants. I've already read the manual twice and know the ins and outs of this beauty. My buddy asked me if i wanted to take pictures at his wedding. This is a huge responsibility and a great honor for him to trust my skills with his wedding memories. He asked how much and i said I'd do it for free just for the experience but tips are appreciated.
I will though charge for prints, obviously.
The weddings not till May but i need to study up on it and practice.
Definitely going to have to write up a letter of agreement stating my buddy understands I'm not a professional wedding photographer, and i cannot guarantee to provide any specific photo, and I'm not responsible for any loss of coverage for any reason.
Anyone ever shoot a wedding before?
I've done a couple. It's fun and high pressure. I just bought a Alien Bee strobe for birthday event I'll be shooting in NYC. Each one I do I try to expand my skills and equipment.

Been there. Done that.

be prepared to rage at the people you're taking pics of.
Since it's your friend obviously you won't but in the future get ready to feel out of place...
at least that;s how camera men seem to me at such events, always lugging around that equipment and having to gather everybody for photos and what not..

| Originally posted by Sushipunk Nothing wrong with the 430EX II, it's quite a decent flash. Battery grips are awesome too, bot of our cams have one. Does the 75-300mm lens have IS? Edit: Nvm, I'm thinking of the 70-300mm. |

Post some sample shots.
50mm is useless with a small canon, to properly do weddings you need a very wide angle lens for group shots.
My advice:
Try your best to keep the staged 'everyone smile on 3' pictures down. Capture the true element and be natural. Some of the best pictures are those where it is like the people did not know the camera existed. Also - be familiar with where you are going to shoot. Don't walk in without knowing the layout of ALL of the places.
Examples

Just my 2 cents. Take it or leave it!

I've shot a wedding with an XT and the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and got good wide angle at 17 and nice portrait style shots higher up.
I love that lens, its fast and wide. Only problem is how big it is, and the build quality feels a bit cheap for how much it costs.
If you have an EF-S mount body I would recommend it.
