I've already established HBO has some great television programs...

Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos, Flight of the Conchords etc etc.

Would you guys agree with saying this is the best channel or is there one that i'm maybe missing out on that the programs are particularly good?

Cheers.

oh and i can't stand lost.

Most of the stuff I watch seems to have been produced by the BBC.

I'm not really into any of these programmes you mentioned =/

Posted by ZeJayMan on Feb-07-2009 01:53:

Ah yeah, the beeb over here is our standard television. Some of the stuff they have is absolutely spot on. But you find living here there seems to be a bias towards period dramas and soaps, or hospital dramas, or something set in an auction house.

ANything from your local network that you would reccomend? i suppose is how i meant to phrase this question

I didn't realize sopranos and the sopranos were two different shows.

Posted by ZeJayMan on Feb-07-2009 01:57:

it's true, sopranos is good, but not as good as THE sopranos. which is great.

What is TV? I download shows from iTunes.

It's like shit, and the shit.

thanks for the superb input so far, do you watch any television or is this your main source of entertainment?

because this is obviously a total blast i know.

Posted by Cpt.Cocaine on Feb-07-2009 02:09:

No seriously, I haven't watched TV in years. I only pretend I do so I can chat with the cool peeps.

I'm not sure there's anything available in English apart from the soap operas. "Globo Repórter" is nice, and "Casseta & Planeta", a local comedy show, is hysteric. But, I think both programmes are too local

U forgot Entourage dude!

Posted by coolestrl on Feb-07-2009 02:12:

Showtime has good shows as well, i totally love Dexter!

Posted by ZeJayMan on Feb-07-2009 02:13:

I've never seen Entourage. I might give that a bash.

END OF DISCUSSION.

Pisses me off how much attention Sopranos gets compared to The Wire, which was head and shoulders better in my opinion.

Other HBO Shows to check out are Carnivale and Deadwood. Rome is f'ing great too. I think those 4 would make up my favourite HBO shows. Other stuff worth checking out would be Entourage, Generation Kill and True Blood.

In all honesty though, I think HBO has gone downhill the past few years. Ever since The Wire ended the network just doesn't have a "flagship" TV show.

David Simon created both Generation Kill and The Wire. So you should definitely check it out since you like GK.

HBO is only good for boxing

I think Showtime wins hands down. Dexter...one of the best shows on TV period, IMO Californication is great, Weeds is good, The L-Word which my GF loves, the Hooker one, United States of Tara...not sure about that one, hehe.

I liked the early "The Wire" shows the best and 6 feet Under for HBO. Big Love is actually decent, but for now, Dexter cannot be beat on Showtime!!

Oz was pretty good....

Casseta & Planeta is the worst shit to come out of Globo. Brazilian TV sucks compared to American IMHO. The only decent thing Globo has is A Grande Familia and it pretty much ends there.

True Blood FTW.
