Ecstasy 'not worse than riding'

I don't indulge, but the article does ask a fairly valid question:

quote:
The professor said horse-riding accounted for more than 100 deaths a year, and went on: "This attitude raises the critical question of why society tolerates - indeed encourages - certain forms of potentially harmful behaviour but not others such as drug use."

what if you're riding a miniature horse?

Posted by Sunsnail on Feb-07-2009 19:15:

Often times the horses are not purebred, but mixed. You never really know what's in it.

So what happens if Sarah Jessica Parker takes Ecstasy?

As for the original question, he's comparing oranges and apples... unless people in the UK no longer occasionally ride horses to go places.

Drug prohibition is nothing but social engineering completely devoid of any basis in reality.

horseshit. this guy is a nutt. ask Christopher Reeve how does he feel about dangers of horses... or extasy.

That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. It's like saying that sticking a red-hot poker in your ear is less destructive than car racing because more people die whilst doing the latter.

you, sir, obviously never rolled. How many people smoke and die of smoking? How many die of car accidents? How many are killed by guns, knives, and other blunt or sharp objects? How many die just by being in a wrong place at a wrong time?

Why isn't nanny state doing anything about THAT?

More people die of violence and crime associated with selling or consuming x than of actual consumption.

Yet another intelligent post from you.

The point is that every time a person does ecstasy they will be harmed, whereas the odds of being permanently harmed when riding a horse are fairly low.

Let the horse go, man. Here, let me show you how it's done...

Yes. I'm sick of people trying to justify their drug usage to themselves by denying that it's harmful. Like many other substances, ecstasy degrades your neurotransmitter systems with every dose. The fact that I feel like complete shit right now is proof of that.

mdma is safer for your overall mental health than weed. and weed isnt a drug

i refer to the Lancet's review. much better than the jokes of experiments done on monkeys, where they were actually given meth and the public was fooled into beleiving the brain in the hole theory.

initially had a significant therapeutic purpose, now going back to it decades later for PTSD,terminal patients etc. countries like Israel are already paving the way. Domesticated, how can you say that people that benefited from the drug in this context were "degraded" in their overall function...?

if only pills were cut clean for the most part...pure mdma is puuure win.

This guy is also on the board of Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.

His point was about 30 a year die from ecstasy (he's saying it is dangerous) while about 100 die from horse riding (also dangerous). And it is likely more people take ecstasy than do horse riding in the UK.

Both of them expose you to danger, but for some reason we are stopped from taking ecstasy but allowed to do horse riding. Maybe it's because if it was legal loads more people would try/take ecstasy?
