Damn Arabs

Srsly, FKN quit marrying adolescent girls. What Saudi-Arabias govt allowed to happen is just sick and perverted. The 47 y/o who married the 8 y/o girl should be launched into space and jettisoned into the atmosphere.

i like how the judge allowed the marriage as long as the perverted 47 year old dude promised not to have sex with the girl. backwards-ass system of justice!

Posted by Damerchi on Feb-09-2009 20:45:

what do they take as the official "puberty date"

oh look...her first mustache hair is coming in!

people that deal with these matters(like the human rights activist) will never address the elephant in the room, which is the fact the the so called prophet engaged in paedophilic behaviour, and the religion is based largely uppon following his lead in lifestyle...Saudi Laws are based on this, so no matter how many scientific and psychological studies are done to show that this is wrong on so many levels, the life of muhammad(therapy be upon him) trumps all, because..god said so.

Old news. Young children have been sexually abused for many generations over there, and not just in Saudi Arabia, but in Afghanistan, Sudan, etc. ...

Heck, in Saudi Arabia women arent even allowed to drive a car for Christ's sake. Not even talking about other more important rights.

And there are worse things in that country ... its just appalling. But we all know the political game played, by all the big players. Human rights arent important - but take solace in the fact that among the big powers USA is not the only country which closes its eyes to these human rights problems.

Posted by Lemonad on Feb-10-2009 06:33:

don't worry, as long as America spreads it's ass for Saudi oil, this will go unnoticed.

Hey, lay off the guy, at least he has the decency to marry the girl, a catholic priest while preaching no sex before marriege will still fuck the shit out of a 7 year old boy even though its more than likely that he has no intention whatsoever of marrying that little boy.

Islam has nothing to do with this. Women have rights in proper interpretations of Islam, which countries such as Turkey and Malaysia and UAE and countless others follow. Saudi Arabia is just messed up.

Saying Islam condones this nonsense is like saying Christianity condones the Holocaust.

this is a pure manifestation of islam. it has everything to do with this. this is a similar scenario to Aisha, where the marraige was consumated a few years later-just like this pact the 47 yr old made.

turkey is secular...a secular miracle in my opinion.

Malaysia is better than most of the islamic world...but it is only 60 percent muslim. according to 17sss, their royalty knows how to party.

for an example of women's rights abuses-see Irene Xavier.

if a UAE woman marries a foreigner she loses her citizenship. definately not the case for the man who has 1 arab wife and 3 eastern european golddiggers. one time a royal in the 90's went to london and was found out to be living a skanky lifestlye. they put the bitch under house arrest when she came back.

im sorry, but if the religion is sacred to you, I know you like to sugarcoat it, but the tone is patriarchal, and that women are incapable of making their own decisions in life.

Through out that whole post DJ, this is all the diffusion of Political mind states.

Islamically the woman has the right to a divorce without having to give any reason for it.

I'm sorry for actually saying something that isn't meant to make people lather hate on Islam/Muslims, when a story like this comes out this gives Islamaphobes an opportunity to come out of the closet, who am I to rain on their sad little parade?

Maybe I should start dishing hate out at westerners everytime there is a war or something the US government caused, heck, why a war? Every time someone is wrongly executed or murdered. Maybe I'll diversify it, blame Christians too while I'm at it.

Apparently painting in broad brushstrokes is the best way to go

And re: Aisha story (because I havn't heard this a million times)

Want to take a wild guess what the relative ages of Mary and Joseph probably were when their marriage contract was signed?

Because it was probably about the same. Parents frequently arranged for their daughter's future by finding her a husband when she was very young, even under 10 y/o. An auspicious marriage would be to a man with an established career, often meaning he's a decade or more older than his bride. If he's particularly renowned, he's likely to be even older.

Moving in together and commencing with the baby-making would happen when she's in her early/mid teens, and he's probably 30+.

That's the ancient Mediterranean for you. People were effectively social adults when they were about 12. For girls this meant marriage. For boys, to build a career and save money so one day they can afford marriage.

I agree with you about the divorce, the right is not so equal however...men have more of an ease and are much less likely to be questioned in their motive. I dont see a woman being able to say talak x 3-end of question

nope, you should just blame the individual parties responsible for any unjust action. i dont personally hate republicans just because i didn't support many of the tactics of the bush administration. I don't beleive in "all or nothing" labelling of people.

is this supposed to justify his(prohphet's) paedophilic behaviour?

look, as long as we can agree on the fact that this is wrong(in saudi), then that's all that matters really. the only difference is that I think it's technically a proper interpretation of the religion whereas you do not.

no doubt! Back in June, we were getting a personal tour of the Prince's new house, we went downstairs to the play room for the little kids and grandkids... there is a massive mirror on one wall that is like 40 feet long. The Prince touched the top left corner of the mirror and part of the fucking wall opened up and turned around like in Batman's house or something. Inside that room was a private mini nightclub! Awesome bar loaded with top-shelf everything, a full DJ booth set up with 2 Pioneer DVJ 1000's and a great mixer and sound system, flat screen tv's, a dancefloor, and all white Armani leather furniture.

Haha... it was like 2:00 in the daytime and my parents, my wife and I, and a couple business partners are all sitting around bullshitting with the Prince and his wife, his son who's 30 and in line to be King in about 20 years was mixing drinks for everyone, and his daughter who's like 21 started spinning on the decks. For me, who grew up in a middle class family, it was pretty surreal.

AWESOME clip, PKC, thanks for sharing. Good summary in a nutshell of the situation around that poor Dutchman.

Memories of brutal stabbing murder of Theo van Gogh by an Islamic radical in broad daylight for making a movie on women's rights in Islam are still strong in my mind ...

You know, I fear sooner or later this can one day spill over into a pogrom, if this issue is not properly dealt with. The guy has a good point in the video.

Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh, who made a controversial film about Islamic culture, has been stabbed and shot dead in Amsterdam, Dutch police say.

Police arrested a man in a nearby park after an exchange of gunfire. The man, aged 26, had joint Dutch and Moroccan nationality, they said.

Van Gogh, 47, had received death threats after his film Submission was shown on Dutch TV.

It portrayed violence against women in Islamic societies.

The film was made with liberal Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who fled an arranged marriage.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been under police protection since the film was aired. She has also received death threats and has renounced the Islamic faith.

Eyewitnesses quoted by Radio Netherlands said Van Gogh was attacked while cycling by a man dressed in a traditional Moroccan jallaba.

Both the suspect and a policeman suffered bullet wounds and are now in hospital.

Van Gogh - who was related to the famous Dutch painter - had also been making a film about Pim Fortuyn, the populist right-wing, anti-immigration politician assassinated in May 2002.

Film controversy

The film Submission told the story of a Muslim woman forced into an arranged marriage who is abused by her husband and raped by her uncle. It triggered an outcry from Dutch Muslims.

In one scene the film showed an actress in see-through garments with Koranic script written on her body, which also bore whip marks.

The Netherlands is home to nearly one million Muslims or 5.5% of the population.

One of the film maker's colleagues at the film production company said Van Gogh had received death threats "but he never took them quite seriously".

"He was a controversial figure and a champion of free speech," he told Reuters.

Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said "it is unacceptable if expressing your opinion would be the cause of this brutal murder".

"On a day like this we are reminded of the murder of Fortuyn. We cannot resign ourselves to such a climate, " he added.

And Queen Beatrix said she was shocked and appalled at the killing, AFP news agency reported.

Good point. Plus, not all Muslims are evil ... its important to note that too.

I worry that in the future radicals might succeed in taking control of Islam.
