Srsly, FKN quit marrying adolescent girls. What Saudi-Arabias govt allowed to happen is just sick and perverted. The 47 y/o who married the 8 y/o girl should be launched into space and jettisoned into the atmosphere.

what do they take as the official "puberty date"
oh look...her first mustache hair is coming in!
people that deal with these matters(like the human rights activist) will never address the elephant in the room, which is the fact the the so called prophet engaged in paedophilic behaviour, and the religion is based largely uppon following his lead in lifestyle...Saudi Laws are based on this, so no matter how many scientific and psychological studies are done to show that this is wrong on so many levels, the life of muhammad(therapy be upon him) trumps all, because..god said so.
Old news. Young children have been sexually abused for many generations over there, and not just in Saudi Arabia, but in Afghanistan, Sudan, etc. ...
Heck, in Saudi Arabia women arent even allowed to drive a car for Christ's sake. Not even talking about other more important rights.
And there are worse things in that country ... its just appalling. But we all know the political game played, by all the big players. Human rights arent important - but take solace in the fact that among the big powers USA is not the only country which closes its eyes to these human rights problems.
don't worry, as long as America spreads it's ass for Saudi oil, this will go unnoticed.
Thats Islam for you. You know the religon of peace.....

Islam has nothing to do with this. Women have rights in proper interpretations of Islam, which countries such as Turkey and Malaysia and UAE and countless others follow. Saudi Arabia is just messed up.
Saying Islam condones this nonsense is like saying Christianity condones the Holocaust.

Through out that whole post DJ, this is all the diffusion of Political mind states.
Islamically the woman has the right to a divorce without having to give any reason for it.
I'm sorry for actually saying something that isn't meant to make people lather hate on Islam/Muslims, when a story like this comes out this gives Islamaphobes an opportunity to come out of the closet, who am I to rain on their sad little parade?
Maybe I should start dishing hate out at westerners everytime there is a war or something the US government caused, heck, why a war? Every time someone is wrongly executed or murdered. Maybe I'll diversify it, blame Christians too while I'm at it.
Apparently painting in broad brushstrokes is the best way to go
And re: Aisha story (because I havn't heard this a million times)
Want to take a wild guess what the relative ages of Mary and Joseph probably were when their marriage contract was signed?
Because it was probably about the same. Parents frequently arranged for their daughter's future by finding her a husband when she was very young, even under 10 y/o. An auspicious marriage would be to a man with an established career, often meaning he's a decade or more older than his bride. If he's particularly renowned, he's likely to be even older.
Moving in together and commencing with the baby-making would happen when she's in her early/mid teens, and he's probably 30+.
That's the ancient Mediterranean for you. People were effectively social adults when they were about 12. For girls this meant marriage. For boys, to build a career and save money so one day they can afford marriage.

Gunman kills Dutch film director Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh Van Gogh directed TV series and wrote newspaper columns Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh, who made a controversial film about Islamic culture, has been stabbed and shot dead in Amsterdam, Dutch police say. Police arrested a man in a nearby park after an exchange of gunfire. The man, aged 26, had joint Dutch and Moroccan nationality, they said. Van Gogh, 47, had received death threats after his film Submission was shown on Dutch TV. It portrayed violence against women in Islamic societies. The film was made with liberal Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who fled an arranged marriage. Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been under police protection since the film was aired. She has also received death threats and has renounced the Islamic faith. Ayaan Hirsi Ali Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an outspoken critic of Islam Eyewitnesses quoted by Radio Netherlands said Van Gogh was attacked while cycling by a man dressed in a traditional Moroccan jallaba. Both the suspect and a policeman suffered bullet wounds and are now in hospital. Van Gogh - who was related to the famous Dutch painter - had also been making a film about Pim Fortuyn, the populist right-wing, anti-immigration politician assassinated in May 2002. Film controversy The film Submission told the story of a Muslim woman forced into an arranged marriage who is abused by her husband and raped by her uncle. It triggered an outcry from Dutch Muslims. In one scene the film showed an actress in see-through garments with Koranic script written on her body, which also bore whip marks. The Netherlands is home to nearly one million Muslims or 5.5% of the population. One of the film maker's colleagues at the film production company said Van Gogh had received death threats "but he never took them quite seriously". "He was a controversial figure and a champion of free speech," he told Reuters. Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said "it is unacceptable if expressing your opinion would be the cause of this brutal murder". "On a day like this we are reminded of the murder of Fortuyn. We cannot resign ourselves to such a climate, " he added. And Queen Beatrix said she was shocked and appalled at the killing, AFP news agency reported. |
