question about hooking up firewire
ok, so I went cheap (not really) and bought the M-Audio 410 interface, however, I realized I don't have a single 1394 port on my motherboard to hook it up to.
Will I need to buy a PCMCIA firewire card, install it in my motherboard, THEN hook the 410 up to it? If so, what brand do you guys recommend? Does it have to be one with a tranfser rate of 800mb/s and up?
LINK
If not, what other way, without risking a fried motherboard, could I hook up the 410 to my PC? I dont have any monitors yet but will be getting them soon. I am mostly concerned about possible latency, although I'm running a quad core w/16 gigs of RAM.
Fail!

| Originally posted by Zild No he is retarded and said PCMCIA but he meant PCI to 1394 google it clos also depending on your mobo and case you bought you might have firewire built into that with port on the case, but you need to connect the wires from the mobo to the case properly. If not get a pci to 1394 card and stick it in any free PCI slot. |

It looks like one of those precut things where you just pop out the lil' plastic and voala! ok, so the link I provided is what I need then. But, do I go with something cheap that produces UP TO 400 mb/s, or do I go 800mb/s? I've googled that and i dont see any discussion from anyone on that matter. Also, I'm hoping that my only available slot can fit the card. My video is so fckn huge, it looks like the titanic parked itself inside of it. I'll take pictures of everything if you guys would like so that I can get some detailed input without fucking up my equipment. |
