Small Venue Suggestions?

Greets and salutations...

One of my students is looking for a licensed room or venue for his 25th b-day bash on Feb 28. 30-40 heads, tops, and he wants to bring in his own DJs. Banging Techno, so the owner/manager/neighbours should be cool with that. Equipment isn't a huge deal, just adequate space and a solid table for the setup. A big plus if it's out toward the downtown west end and won't cost an arm and a leg to rent for the night.

C'mon TA - whaddya got for me? And pass on cookie-cutter resto-lounges la Harmony or right-idea-wrong-hood venues like the Chelsea Room. Any other suggestions?

I was gonna say Paaeez or Li'ly.. but both are lounges

Y Not is a nice little birthday lounge...might sound off the grid being in yorkville but its perfect for a 30-40 person birthday bash

Checked some reviews for Y Not. Sounds nice, but the b-day boy and his mates are from out Queen & Lansdowne way - Y Not's probably way too upscale for their tastes, and it also looks like they already have in-house DJs playing.

Next?

Problems with Chelsea Room are that noise levels have to be kept down, due to it being smack in the middle of a residential strip, and the tunes have to be turned off altogether by 2 a.m. for the same reason, last time I checked

Try "Down One" on Front Street.

Also a couple of years ago we rented out the upstairs at the Butterfly Lounge, and they let us have our own DJs etc.

i dunno if butterfly still exists...

one thing you have to remember too...feb 28th is 2.5 weeks away, any potential venue will most likely be booked already...good luck

Yeah, I know it's a stretch at this point, but figured I'd try to help him by getting a few names for him to check out.

Soma on Queen St East is a great little place, although not near the downtown core (Queen/DVP).

We used to throw great parties there, hold about 130 out looks busy with 30-40. The owners are great guys and there's a nice DJ table setup already (bring equipment).

Haven't been there in YEARS - do they actually take bookings for parties there, now?

my buddy had his b-day bash @ Green room a while ago on a Sat night, booked the whole 2nd floor and it was rammed, but they were playing their own (pop) music, not sure about the DJ thing though.

Another place That I've been to (with private DJ+ music + whole shebang) is Glam studio (@ Harbord + Ossington) and it's an awesome venue for a b-day party:
