Liquified & Opera

I felt like this deserved it's own thread but --

We should always scrap the DJ booth at Opera and have the DJs on the stage. It totally creates a better vibe.

I think most people agree with me, ya?

I agree with you. It did create a much better vibe.

Certain DJ's still need to be in the upper box but I do agree with you. I think we are going to try and work it out to have Digweed on the stage and of course infected mushroom will be on the stage on march 12th since its a live show.

That was awesome. I think people we're definitely paying more attention to what was going on with the DJs.

Pssssh, besides Armin who loves standing on the edge of the booth giving us Jesus poses and bowing, who needs the DJ booth!?!?!?

I kid of course.

Do what you think is best!

But I definitely like the performing on stage idea!

Ya, but they always want to "test" new things that end up being stupid. The stage is the dopeness indeed.

That's cool and all but I'm still of the opinion that DJs don't really belong on a stage...

Posted by trancension on Feb-14-2009 23:18:

Don't get me wrong, it's not the stage as much as it is the DJ being closer to the crowd.

I ono...I spend a lot of time looking at the DJ...and it's a lot easier to see them when they're not 15 feet above me. By all means, put them in a booth...but don't put them 15 feet above the dance floor!

This is specifically for our Trance shows...and this is just my opinion. But one of the things I always liked more about Eleven50 was the fact that the booth wasn't so elevated.

I could care less what the DJ is playing on, the vibe is so much better there when they are closer to the crowd. The elevated booth is part of why i hate opera.

Not only can we see them better, but they can see us and get a better feel for the crowd.

My thoughts exactly. It may sound kind of weird, but I think a lot of people, including me, spend a lot of time looking at the dj. Is that mostly only at trance shows? And it's just better to have the dj closer to the crowd. I'd like to go to one of the shows where the dj booth is pretty much in the crowd. Although, I know that wouldn't work well for some of the bigger guys.
And yeah, why exactly would any dj need to be in the booth?
I only went to 1150 once. It was my first time seeing a dj and it was Paul van Dyk. From what I remember it was still kind of high wasn't it?

Posted by trancension on Feb-15-2009 17:05:

It wasn't very high...about as high as the WETBar booth. The thing that probably made it seem elevated was the fact that there was a good bit of distance between the crowd and the booth, but it wasn't a matter of height -- just space/distance.

Yeah, now that I think about it, that's probably it. That show was so packed I couldn't even make my way up to the stage area and that probably made it seem even further.

When PVD played at Eleven50 he was elevated up on that staircase that is no longer there. The staircase was actually about the same height as the booth is now

I found some old pictures from that event. It's hard to tell because the set up was different, but it may be pretty close to the same height. I think the booth now just has a little more substance to it so it so it makes it even harder to see the dj. The booth was definately higher than Wetbar's though.

Posted by trancension on Feb-15-2009 20:03:

Ahhh, I don't remember that set up actually...I probably did a little bit too much pre-gaming that night, like most of the Eleven50 nights...oh how I miss pre-gaming so hard that I would see the X's on my hands and be confused.

I have not been to the club since it changed names etc, but I actually thought the elevated area on the stairs brought a better vibe. I guess it is yet another sign of how things change.

The whole club was better period when it was Eleven50...And I have not met one single EDM fan who has thought otherwise to this day.....Here's to hoping Dreamz will be much more supportive of shows after they see the turnout for Dubfire!

Last I heard, they're struggling, so they could use a few Liquified shows. I'd actually be happy if that is the venue mentioned in the OTP thread, it's got good sound and is REALLY roomy.

Yep, hopefully liquified will save them out of the deep and further liquified shows hosted at dreams rather than opera.
