You know what?

I'm actually going to praise the US here. Sure, the country isn't perfect, but the American way of life is not at all that bad, the optimism inherent to American culture is truly inspiring, and some of the most ingenious minds of the last century came from America.

Fuck yeah!

Lira = Closet Ameriphile... Wait. Lira, you live in South America - that makes you 'madigan as well!

Well no, they came from other countries but grew up and did their best work in the states due to more money and/or being forced to work there.

Not all of them. But the sole fact that they welcomed these foreigners and gave them the means to prosper should be considered a madrefucking plus.

Of course not all of them. Credit where credit is due and all that.

We have a 'story' that we can put behind all the success of our country. As the story goes, success of those in our country as well as our country as a whole is due to hard work of people willing to give up what they had for a chance of success. In reality that happens and we glorify/deify examples that fit this mold but its far from a rule. Not to mention very often we don't exactly 'welcom' foreigners. Some places do, and I was lucky enough raised in a town where we have a substantial foreign population (to the point where my elementary school class had several people who spoke Khmer as their first language. However, one town over its very very far from this, and we have a long way to go still.

/also drunk
