Review: REQUIEM FOR LOVE w/ SiED van RiEL, ARNEJ, Mr. Morton & Robbie Lopez
Some inital thoughts while I rehydrate...
Sucks that I had to leave so early but had other priorities that require some decent sleep.
But all I can say is
TRANCE!!!
I dont do trance often... and I am so glad I made it out to this. Although it took me awhile I definitely found my trance groove and I am sure I made an ass of myself. But I had so much fun.
Arnej's set was great. Loved the later half of it. There were some sound issues throughout his set. I found the begining was too stop and go. And I wasnt too sure what to do during those 'stop' moments... but really thats because Im a trance noob.
SvR... oh shit. you folks were right on this guy. Absolutely incredible. It was so hard to leave before his set was over. I couldnt stop dancing. The energy was great. I loved every moment of it.
And Robbie Lopez...I was surprised that he wasnt playing trance. But House sounds mighty good in that little venue and I LOVED Robbies set. I really hope that he'll play again at Vola.
I'll leave the track listing to the trance pros. But I always love hearing Beach ball in a club <3
I loved Vola. It has such a homey feel. The temperature was wayyyy hot though and it wasnt from the people (when we got there around 11 it was already boiling). The bathrooms were a bit messy too - but 1000 times better than guv...so I cant complain. Some serious sound for a little club too. Cant wait to go back.
The TA crowd was in full force. So great to see some faces I havent seen in soooo long. And I got to meet a few new ones as well. Thanks to all for a wonderful night.
Oh and some drunk idiot smashed my foot. Its swollen, hopefully its better tomorrow.
Cant wait for round two.
I have so much more to say but that will have to wait till monday.
just got home, luckily.. car towed.. great night.. really bad way to end it

One of those random unplanned nights to venture out to Vola after the movies! Got a text from friends to come to 214 Adelaide, wasn't even sure where I was going untill getting closer to the venue lol
I haven't been out in a longgggggg longggggg lonnnggg time, but definitely enjoyed my time last night. The place itself had a great vibe, somewhat of a mix between guv and mod club.
I came in the middle of Arnej's set. It was the first time I saw him play, and I was pleasantly surprised. I wish that he would have played a bit more vocal tunes, but that's just my personal preference, since I am not too much into hard trance, and I know he played a few of such tracks.
I must say that trance is definitely making it's way back. I have been listening to more of it lately, and it was nice to end up randomly at a very good trance party. I enjoyed the change because I have been quite tired of dark and sketchy beats, and last night was very refreshening in terms of music.
When SVR came on I was already dancing my ass off, but his energy made me want to dance even more. He played some amazing tracks, I liked the mix between a few cheesy tunes and serious tracks with good vocals. Even his choice of hard trance was nice, and I thought the set overall had a great flow. It was just the perfect ammount of build-ups, and a few "stop moments" that Tara mentioned. What is the proper name for those anyway?
Overall, I am very happy that I made it out last night, even though I ended up spending quite a bit of $ on the cover, drinks, and the cab home. I do think that the cover is way too much for such a small venue. The Djs were great, but even guv doesn't charge more than 20$ at the door? I would totally recommend lowering the cover down to 15$ with gl and 20$ without.
Jeff, thanks for looking out after me once my friends went home. Oz, thanks for getting me a cab and some vodka for my redbull after the last call. It was nice to see Tara, Alex, Chris, Vince, Jesse, and a few others. Negar, it was nice to meet you again (after that one time at cevapi party).
Edina and Arnej you guys are hot rawrrrr...love it love it love it!
Looking forward to the summer to start seeing all of you more often!

I absolutely loved Sied's style. I wish we could have stayed for Kris' whole closing set, but we were all so dead. I KNOW you played awesome though Kris, you always do

arnej rocked my tits off!
By brain hurts...
first time at vola and i really enjoyed myself. got in, no problems...thought i'd be missing the start of arnej but luckily timeslots were pushed back a bit. this gave me enough time to warm up to some tunes and mr. stilez did that quite well.
arnej came on and the floor started to fill up a bit with more and more people coming down from the upper bar area. really liked the build up of the set. some of the breakdowns were a bit long but i liked the track selection overall. tune of the night for me was definitely beachball. when the first sound of those drums came on...
. and monkey forest a bit after that...OH YEH
. one tune i couldn't ID was the one right after monkey forest and it's been annoying me ever since because i should know it. please post the name if anyone knows!
didn't really know what to expect of svr since i've only heard one or two of his sets and a couple of productions. but for some reason i had the preconceived notion that he played a bit more harder techy stuff. which is why i was really suprised when he played helsinki scorchin. maybe he was just preparing us for a&b
. however, i definitely liked that he dropped 'contrasts' at the peak of his set with the crowd going wild. he dropped the intesity way down nearing the end of his set by playing a remix of iio-rapture and then following with some vocal stuff i believe.
it's too bad most people left when kris came on because i think most of the TAs that were there like that hard pumping music that makes you feel like you're in the extra rinse cycle of a washing machine. when i left i think there was a total of 10 or so people on the dance floor.
congrats to the vola crew for making this happen and i look more to many more events with new djs coming in.

Wow, I am so dead. I was really tired but still danced my ass off while trying not to fall asleep. I was really happy with the way Arnej opened his set. I love "The Ones That Get Away"... brilliant track. It was nice to hear some of his older 8 wonders tracks later in the set too.
Sied played a lot of great tracks that I was very happy to hear. I wish that I hadn't been so sleepy by the time his set rolled around. I guess trying to stay up for 24 hours straight will do that to you.
Chris continued to pound our asses into the floor with a barrage of awesome tracks. Very nice.
I was glad that there was no siren this time. ^_^ Except at the very end; that was hilarious.
Vola loses major marks for being way too hot throughout most of the night. Their sound is very good; I still think the highs are too loud but that's probably just because I'm not deaf enough to hear them at their intended deaf-clubber-hearing-adjusted volume.
Great to see so many TAs out. I will try to make it to Vola whenever they have a headliner there, as it's always an awesome time.
I'm still debating whether or not I have the energy to go to Guv tonight or whether I should just sit on my ass at home and take it easy. >_<
Just woke up now, and I am dead tired! No regrets though last night was a fun party! The last 30-45 mins of Arnej's set was just intense. SVR played a nice set, a bunch of new tunes I've never heard along with a few classics (Oxia - Domino! Helsinki Scorchin!) Stayed for about half an hour of Mortyman's set, I was really enjoying it but I had to conserve my energy for tonight. Round 2: Above & Beyond! ALL OUT!!!

Had a great time. It was so awesome to see such a large TA group in such a small room. Usually groups this size are only at guv and that place is so big that they're never the same area.
Great sets from everyone -except I had to miss Kris
. The last half of Arnej's set stole the night for me.
Awesome night! Great seeing everyone out. Here's some vids of last night from my POV
Arnej playing his classic 'The Morning After (Thrillseekers Remix)' track during his set at Vola Lounge The crowd reacts as it comes out of the breakdown.

Best part is that because Vola is a small club, you know that the people show up for trance there are in it for the music and for the DJs. No posers or hanger ons who just go to clubs for the sake of clubbing. This means that the vibe is always good, knowing that you're partying with people who love trance. |

But Contrasts for the win! That track amazes me everytime I hear it! Then hearing him drop PVD & Austin Leeds & Starkillers - NYC (Cream Ibiza Nights Mix)... I pretty much lost it
Some initial thoughts what I rehydrate...
Sucks that I had to leave early but the TA vibe was weak
But all I can say is....
LAME!!!
The TA crowd was in full suck.
Arnej comes on and I'm ready to vibe to his set. I look around and I see the majority of the crowd are TAs, and they're just standing there, bumming the vibe. Moments when its pure 'put your hands in the air', or clap on the song you just fail to produce. 60% of any trance show is the vibe, and being in a club with mainly TAs is not a good vibe.
Don't get me wrong, it was a sick set by both DJs. The DJs didn't ruin the night, you guys did.
You know why clubs pay thousands of dollars for laser systems? So it doesn't like like a retarded kid got a hold of a laser pointer. Maybe if you guys were all tripping balls then I could understand a kid going into seizures with a laser pointer. You didn't even make an attempt to coordinate the laser to the song. It was on seizure mode the whole time. If I was spinning and some douche bag was standing up front shining a laser pointer on my deck I'd deal with that shit.
Vola wasn't very impressive. Its great that you guys brought sied in and are trying to promote the scene, but I'd never go there to kick it for no reason.
Oh and some drunk idiot smashed my foot. Who the hell was that fat 40 year old loser dancing around like a jack ass? Man that guy had a serious B.O. problem.
