Anyone have housing hookups in LA (hopefully near LAX)???

I know this is a long shot on here, but as many of you know I'm trying to move to LA in March or around April 1 to be back with Michelle (fiance) and Devin (son).

Looking for 1 or 2 bedroom. Condition of the place is not a concern, as long as it's safe. Don't care if it's an bit older place that needs a little fixing up (like some painting is needed or old floors)... not the biggest concern. Put it this way, I've lived in nice places all around SF, but my current place is above a body shop with chipped paint, low water pressure, no heater (though I do wish I had one, lol), etc.....but I love the character if this shack more than any other place I've stayed in...

I'm unemployed after working for CBS/CNET as a senior producer (in video) for nine years and starting on unemployment, heh. Michelle has a job though! I don't want to live on unemployment, but at least I know I have it to fall back on for a year...

My situation is a bit complex, but I'm willing to pay a large deposit or several months rent in advance if necessary...(4 months, 6 months, whatever it takes and I can afford...)

Would prefer near the LAX (El Segundo, good side of Inglewood, Culver City, Venice, Venice Beach, Manhatten Beach, Torrance) so we can keep Devin in the same daycare which we love...but if necessary, wililng to look in other ares (Michelle works in Torrance, so at least somewhere where it's not death trying to commute to there)

Looking to move in March or around April 1 and I want want to get off of unemployment as soon as I can as I love working and hate being bored all day...but I at least will have that to fall back on for upto a year.

Just hoping for a bit of luck....\

Can't you move in with Michelle?

No. She doesn't ahve her own place right now. She rents a room.

Westchester and Playa Del Rey are other areas near LAX you may want to look into. I saw many signs on Manchester Blvd with signs for rent. (I recently took a class in Playa Del Rey near the airport.)

Craigslist may be a good place to start. There are various rental company/agencies as well.

My father has a townhouse available in Van Nuys (valley) but you definitely don't want to do the 405 drive back and forth during rush hour.

Playa Vista might be a place to check out and maybe even Manhattan Beach.

What's your budget?

There's a good side of Inglewood?

Try westsiderentals.com. Yo may need to create an account but you get what you want.

You can also try Lido Equities. They've got a bunch of properties on the west side (Venice, Marina, Playa del Rey, Santa Monica, etc) and you dont need to create an account to look them up.

Check out Archstone Apartments. They have low deposit fees. You can transfer to different Archstones without having to break a lease. When stuff beaks they fix it within 24 hours guaranteed. They accept pets. Due to moving around in my job I lived in 3 different Archstone complexes around Los Angeles. Very safe and secure....

Well, whatever place you choose, don't go for Park West. It's horrible. Not worth the money.

www.craigslist.org is your best friend. My sis recently found a nice place in rancho santa margarita through craigslist.

I wouldn't really recommend Craigslist. Westsiderentals.com is much better, that's what I used.

Another +1 for westsiderentals. well worth the $30, or whatever it is they charge for several months' worth of use.

The membership is basically free if you sign up with Time Warner Cable, they give you $30 back. It takes like 3 months to process though

My management company is KMK Management. Usually older (rent controlled) buildings, but they keep them in decent shape.

Check out the Fox Hills area of Culver City. Right next to Westchester and the 405. I have lived here for close to two years and it's pretty convenient to everything and about 10 minutes from LAX. Generally pretty quiet as well. I think there are a few rental buildings in the area.
