omg help me please --- ( Computer Related )
k so i formatted my computer today, so i attempted to install Windows Live MSN and it would not allow me to, it said the firewall settings will not allow it, but then i go to control panel and the firewall is not there ...
i don't get it...
Help me please
where did all the comp geeks go
Don't know what to say. I have to say is this
1. Right click My Computer
2. CLick Manage
3. Click "Services and Applications" >> "Services"
4. on the right pane, if "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" is not listed, sounds like the Windows Firewall service was not installed on your computer.
you have to burn the firewall duh.

Ok ok ok nvm, it's there
but why is it not in control panel?
and why is it not giving me the options to modify it
Next time you have tech question pretend you're a woman you get answers quicker.
go to your antivirus options and include MSn to the exceptions
then go to your windows firewall
start
control panel
security center
windows firewall
options
exceptions
mark MSN
ok
also could be your router try plugging directly into the modem.
ive always wished i was a computer geek

most likely not.
i believe the "Firewall" was a feature in service pack 2. it wasn't there in the original Windows XP.

WF_XPSP2
ok hold it right there... this is what i downloaded with that link and it's not working, it keeps giving me an error
should i keep trying to download the service pack through the automatic updates ?
Document-Wordpad
Unable to load graphics conversion filter. continue with document conversion?
wtf is this x_x
sorry man, you've left the area of pkc-expertise. yes, it might be better to do the automatic updates thing, assuming you have a legit copy of XP.

So if you formatted your computer, it means that you got a fresh install of Win XP.
Did you install from a recovery partition or a CD?
MOST XP CDs come with sp2. What other apps have you installed already since you formatted?
Most likely you need to update your auto installer for windows; and before you do anything disable the firewall services by running msconfig in your run command: start> run and reboot.
Try again to install SP3(sp2 not needed as SP3 has all the updates you'll even need) and give your MSN live another shot. This should do.
k so i got the Service pack 2 through the update and the firewall is there and i installed msn
