man, how many times do i need to see lawler that week, i ask myself? hmmm, maybe one more time after the dj mag party and the viva vs. cadenza on the terrace and a possible sighting here or there at another day party, lol. well he is my fav but i gotta make room for the tons of other great djs that are in town that week. damn, so tempting, i guess from this party straight to SSFD is a great possibility. oh well, sleep just got crossed off the list of things to do

I thought that, talk about spreading yourself thin. I know we're not gonna sleep much but I thought most of the DJs would! Obviously Lawler is going all out this year, he seems to have a set almost every day.

Steve Lawler's Lights Out Miami returns to South Beach in 2009, embarking on its 8th year as one of the premier events of the conference week. Lights Out Miami is Lawler's very own signature event; a forward-thinking concept night originally inspired by his own experiences at the most obscure, intense and debauched parties on the planet.

Lights Out is about unashamedly getting lost in the music with a no-messing rave vibe, and it is one of the longest serving and most popular parties on the WMC calendar. Year in, year out it is highly anticipated and delivers a raw and unparalleled energy that redefines the club night as we know it.

Lawler brings about an undeniably compelling atmosphere, anchored by his mastery behind the decks and complimented by a full range Dynacord Sound System. The collective experience is one that no true Lawler fan can afford to miss, enhanced by thought-provoking visual art, mind-blowing set production. The room is decorated and transformed to fit the concept theme with the people and the ambience manipulated to the identity of Lights Out.

Going back to its roots is the crucial theme for 2009s Lights Out party as Steve takes his brainchild back to the basics of house music and clubbing culture. As ever the venue has changed, this is a prerequisite for the Lights Out parties so the person on the dance floor gets a fresh, moving Lights Out experience every time. Lawler notably spends months preparing for this one show, no mean feat for a man that averages well over 120 gigs a year, further evidence of why he is revered as one of the most intense and insightful DJ/producers out there. Chosen for its intimate, old school style space Kore in the hub of activity on Washington Avenue will host the party.

Steve comments:

"After 8 years of Lights Out at the Winter Music Conference, I believe the way forward for Lights Out is to go back to its original roots. Ill play an extended set where I am free to build the atmosphere of the night. Over the last few years I have selected friends and live PA's to showcase there talents, now that I have my Viva Music party for this function I can take Lights Out back to how I always envisaged it to be.
Clive Henry is back on board opening the room with his perfect deep, dark and brooding style. By picking Kore we are going back to a more intimate 600 capacity room which will be transformed into the original Lights Out State. I'm very excited that Lights Out will be going back to its original form"

No kidding, I'm honestly leaning towards this at the moment. The first Lights Out party (GU tour release) I went to was magical. But on the other hand I have had some legendary nights with Digweed behind the decks.

That was my interpretation of his words...reading his comments took me back to my 1st Lights Out "experience". Dark, nasty, dirty, sexual, and TRIBAL...

...feel my drums...

interesting quote from Steve... ill agree w/gypsygirl about his 2007 set @ Twilo, that was an amazing set! so much energy, vintage Lawler!

but i was seriously disappointed w/his set last year, he never got things flowing & what really killed it was when "Seal" had his PA. I dont know who was the brainchild behind that one, but that was just ridiculous. It was like Steve lost a bet w/someone.

part of me wants to go to this, but after seeing Digweed @ Vanguard this past September, i would rather see Diggers

but after hearing reviews from this upcoming party, if he brings it a la old "Lights Out", ill cruise over next year w/all my friends who are "Lawler" freaks

Just got done listening to Lights Out 3 again and I am convinced this party will be unmissable, no matter what is going on Sat night. 5 hours of Lawler to get absolutely nasty

buy your ticket now, it will sell out. i just bought mine last night, even though i'm seeing him on thursday, i know saturday will be completely different, vibe, music, the works.

when i spoke to steve in october he said that this wmc he was returning to his roots, as he stated in the press release, with lights out, he was going small, dark, evil, all the old that made people fall in love with his sound. i have a feeling this is going to be one of those nights that people will talk about for months to come and i would be sick if i missed it. he is still my favorite and the intimacy of the small setting will make it even better i feel and you know that club is gonna be wicked dark!

i agree last years set fell short in so many ways but had some great highlights as well, i loved the tag team set with audiofly! his 2007 was mindblowing and solidified him as my favorite. when he was in LA in october he played a nasty, dirty set, only 2 hours, left us wanting more and more. i really am looking forward to this night and this thread has up-ed my eagerness for this night to get here
