creating a podcast.
Just wondering if any of you guys that have produced podcasts can give me any information on how to get started. I'd like to do a podcast containing artwork and track names (ie: dance department) but have no clue where to start, any info would be useful, cheers.

I use this and im pleased.
anyone know the easiest way to convert an mp3 to an RSS?
You don't really "convert" an MP3 into an RSS.
A podcast is just an XML file (this is the RSS) which is a file that points to your audio and has in it the details of your podcast (including links to images etc).
If you have your own webhosting already I suggest you get loudblog.
Iv never gone down the completely free road but google should help find you some free podcast hosts or something.
Also, if you want to create podcast with the track markers, track names and track art (like dance departments podcasts), you have to create an "enhanced podcast".
This will be an AAC file, not an MP3 (.m4a). If you are a Mac user, you can create these in Garageband.
If you stick to MP3 you'll be limited to a single image specified in the XML file.

I have no idea, in iTunes right click on one and do "get info".

I think that pretty much all iTunes podcasts are .m4a but I could be wrong though.
Nope. You are wrong
I have one on iTunes, and I've posted some mixes as MP3 and some as M4A. Making an enhanced podcast takes time.

Oh, OK then
How do you make an enhanced podcast? Is there some special software you use?
As I said above, you can do it in garageband.

Right, .m4a is AAC (based on MPEG4), which has the capability to store the cue points and track art.
But a podcast doesn't HAVE to be .m4a, it can be .mp3, or even video. It's just a term apple came up with that sounds better than "RSS audio/video feeds for your iPod"

Well i figured some things out here, you can create an enhanced podcast with windows movie maker as a .wmv file and then convert it to an .mpeg4 which can be opened in itunes. Once in itunes you right click and choose 'convert selection for ipod' and then it should be able to be uploaded to itunes.

Great thread here. Been wondering about making podcasts too, but just never thought to ask here!
I finally made my first enhanced podcast yesterday in iTunes. Pretty cool stuff!
I uploaded the file to my MobileMe iDisk, and also made a Podcast website in iWeb (where it just points to the shared .m4a on my iDisk). How do I now make it where anyone can subscribe to my podcasts so that they download into iTunes under the Podcasts section, and if I post a new one and they hit refresh it will auto-download?

Yep, it'll take a while though. I think they have to approve them all.

I have'nt got that far yet as I'm having trouble uploading my file to the net, but let me know how it goes if you dont mind. |
I found out you need to create a feed via RSS (.xml). I found an awesome program called Feeder that allowed a 15 day trial and it was super-easy to create the xml file that way. Then you submit to the IMS as mentioned above and await approval.
How long does it take to get approved? Are they checking for content and shit or what?
