Markus Schulz announces New Album

under one of his alias "Dakota"

http://www.markusschulz.com/news.ph...l&id=1235133019

sickkkkkkkkkk?

Posted by hellosam on Feb-25-2009 13:33:

its going to be SIIIICK i can not wait. Day Off in Lima is an insane song- anything Dakota is perfection in my book.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never really understood the point of having an alias. Isn't the goal to get your name out there more? It seems like an alias just divides your fans and confuses people. I don't think Joe 6 pack knows that Cirez D / Pryda / and Eric Prydz are all the same dude (as if Joe 6 Pack knows Eric Prydz at all but...). Is it just me?

Hijacked! :P

Posted by trancension on Feb-25-2009 22:23:

I think they use the different alias to alert people that it will have a different sound.

And this album will be amazing, so far all the tracks I have heard have been pretty epic

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Feb-25-2009 22:57:

there are also alias' for different labels as some labels prefer one name for releases.

ie.. Statica - Coldharbour & Mike Foyle.. Armada..

and thats why you see the so and so presents .........

- politics

A lot of record contracts have a clause that says that you can only release under your name on that label and that label only. If you release elsewhere, you need to use an alias. If not, your contract's void.

Also, a lot of artists use an alias as a way to say "well, it's not my usual sound, but..."... Which is what I'm doing next in one of my next month's releases

the doorway is pretty good as well, i expect another big album from him. imo he doesn't disappoint. waiting for the release of toronto '09 he'll have a couple of dakota tracks on that particularly sin city and koolhaus

Well personally for me something that started out as an alias became my "sound". Its a really weird feeling to have no one know who the hell you are by the name you want to be known by haha.

What actually happened was i did a track for a friends radio show as a filler and more people loved the style so i just stuck with it, and now i started to get remix requests and have my first non bullshit release of an original track coming out in the summer.

yeah sorry got sidetracked, but if anyone cares in a week or so im going to post about 4 tracks on here, ones that i couldnt get signed or just i didnt want anyone but me to have

Markus' productions/remixes as of late have been freggin SICK. Can't wait for this

Posted by Elyyse on Feb-26-2009 06:41:

Yes - This will be good- I love the Dakota alias, im glad he decided to do a whole album's worth.. Wai your right, Markus never disappoints

Posted by hellosam on Feb-26-2009 16:05:

@ alias: Dakota is an alias for the different sound in his productions per Markus Schulz interview

That makes a lot of sense actually... good point!

I guess I can understand it for a different sound, but I still don't think I'd do it unless I was in a label / legal situation where it made sense (like Stef said I think it's a tricky road to go down). Either way I'm sure the Dakota album will kick ass!

Now for my next mystery: who can tell me why Japanese CD's always seem to get all the bonus tracks :P

The album is under Markus Schulz not Dakota, although he does have some tracks by Dakota on the album.

he's talking about an arist album... not mix compilation

Posted by chimera66 on Mar-12-2009 12:07:

got it yesterday and fantastic compilation, definitely in line with his other great annual compilations like miami 05.

only tracak that i still can't decide if i really like or just find interesting is mr. pit - the cube. it sounds like trance meets music from medieval times...probably a better way to describe but that's how it sounds to me

Posted by AY STAR on Mar-12-2009 12:22:

^^^
where did you purchase the album?

Posted by chimera66 on Mar-12-2009 12:25:

itunes

Posted by GUBostonDubs on Mar-12-2009 14:24:

Dakota had a track on Digweed's Bedrock cd in 1999 called "Swirl". I didn't realize until now but it has Terry Lee Brown Jr. remixes. I gotta check those out
