MAXIMAL house music
So I've got plenty of minimal house/minimal techno. I was wondering, what is the most maximal house music. That is to say, what house music is out there that would be the exact opposite of minimal tech house? Lots and lots of layers, percussion, melodies and ...
A.) is not gay shit
B.) is not electro sounding
something along the lines of (and this is totally random and whats avail on youtube):
or:
Hmm, I don't quite see how the second one could ever be considered "maximal". It's just one loop that goes on and on throughout the whole track and... that's it. I guess something along the lines of tribal house/techno would have lots of percussion in it, if that's what you're after?
For instance, this: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF1288882-02-01-10.mp3
I would think electro/fidget would be maximal house in its purest form. It's really the antithesis of minimal in a lot of respects.
I'm no expert, but it seems to me that minimal isn't defined by its lack of layers, because there really isn't one. Most "minimal" tracks I've heard have a bunch of layers in them, they're just used differently. There are fewer big, wide-frequency, heavy noises and many more light, percussive type elements instead. Creation of the song seems to be done with a "less is more" mentality, with he result being that each sound is given more space to breathe in the mix. The song sounds like it is more empty, but its not really due to a lack of layers, its the producer using those layers in a far more subdued fashion to create a track with more space and less noise.
The contrast of course is electro/fidget with their super huge distorted basslines that feel like they take up 3/4 of the mix, coupled with massive screeches and samples yelling at the dancefloor to get the fuck up and shake their booties (or take the dj's shaft). I can't think of anything that could be more opposed to what minimal producers try to accomplish.
Maximal house to me is more like this:
or this
or this
Personally, I just call it handbag house...
That leftfield is more what people would call tech house or techno these days I suspect. I don't even know what the second one is
I've always thought the "maximal" sound is like the big-room Razor N Guido/Junior Vasquez/Johnny Vicious productions from the late 90's... with 2 minute drumrolls, lots of screechy alarms and high-frequency synths, loud diva vocals, etc.
Funky or Chicago house?
ie:
Inland Knights
Johnny Fiasco
RTHM
Jay West
Scott Wozniak
Chuck Love
Maximal house?
For fucks sake.

| Originally posted by stevsto thanks Trance-MB. You've made a lot of good suggestions in the past. i got Golden girls - Kinetic (Frank De Wulf Remix) from you and also the secret cinema - timeless altitude months ago from you. just so you know the golden girls track worked great for me few months ago, brought the floor back to life, thought you might like to know that. i played the secret cinema in the same set but it definitely did not work, it kinda killed the floor. its at 129bpm but it really needs to be sped up more to work i think. i like these other 2 you've posted here but you're right the first one sounds like 131bpm might be too fast. sometimes i can slow a fast one down and it will work, but they usually have to be consistent "static" tracks with a lot of ryhthm but are repetitive to work when pitched down. |

| Originally posted by Trance-MB Thanks, nice to hear, some over here have a different opinion..... Most tracks were played a bit faster at clubs in Holland. I think you should have a listen at the site of the famous Amsterdam iT, which is closed for years. Yes many "gay" stuff, but they had great compilation cd's. You can have a short listen to all 12 of them over here: http://www.discotheek.it/it-cd/ What about tracks like this, a little bit up tempo is great to dance: Or: Hole in one - Life's too short Chubby Chunks - Testament One Natural Born Grooves - Groovebird SM Trax - Got The Groove Some tracks of which I didn't find a youtube vid: Phocus - Don't Stop Queer - Get up, stand up The Crown - House Music Armania - Turn Me On Sueno Latino feat. Valeria Vix - Noche Diva (Escandalosa Remix) Amsterdance - You Gotta Feel It ![]() Maybe I'll put some of those at Youtube. |

Everytime I throw a 135er dragged down to that range it kills the floor. I algo like SM Trax- Show me something special which i got from you a while back. |

| Originally posted by Trance-MB Yep, the first one doesn't need any pitching up. Over here that would have the opposite effect. For the slower one you might need to have a look at older tracks. I have Chubby Chunks on this one, the last of this great series: Turn Up The Bass 25 Queer - Get Up, Stand Up uses a sample of Chubby Chunks by the way.Strictly Club '97 This is more the speed your look for I guess: |
