Things to do in LA area surrounding getty center
Planning a trip to visit the museum and all i know that is nearby(a couple of miles) is UCLA and the surroundng community. Anything anyone might recommend as a "to do" while down there in that area?
venice beach is less than 5 miles away, and the country clubs are nearby(bel-air, LA), but thats all i know.
thanks
sunset strip?
3rd street prominade in Santa Monica. It's in the pantheon of LA tourist traps. Don't be caught smoking a cigarette there lest the cops tackle you and beat you senseless. Then they'll ticket you. But hey, marijuana is now the lowest priority on the SMPD list. So toke em if you got em!
Venice Beach is always a good time on the weekends. Sometimes on Sundays you can hang out with neo-hippies and cracked-out ravers at the sundown drum circle on the beach itself. Also, you can find all the bongs and knock-off fashion accessories that you'll ever need!
Sony Pictures Studios is in Culver City, which is about 5 miles, or 2.5 hours, south on the 405 fwy. Take a tour and see just how recession-proof the motion picture industry is. Security there is a joke, so go ahead, steal a golf cart on the lot and drive wrecklessly through the sound stages. Good times!

Westwood Village isn't that far.

That's what 6 years of passing out flyers and being likable will do. It's funny...I don't really mind doing it as long the promoters don't mind giving me list. It keeps me connected to LA. I'm sure Giant and Monday Social would have no problem with me collecting weekly discount lists. Won't really have the time soon though.
so what about cool bars/clubs to hit up in the westwood area? years ago i remember going into madisons and maloneys, but who knows whats become of them. Getty and Ucla are the only things on my day agenda so far, perhaps the LATA's can add to the list.
Staying at the Palomar on wilshire blvd, in case that helps with things nearby.
Which days of the week will you be in town?
Thanks for the help Brian!
it will be a weekend, saturday/sunday. so day plans are looking good, just trying to find a cool hangout to maybe go get some drinks sat evening.
ive read up on some places at metromix.com(oharas,930 westwood brewco, bjs, gardens on glendon etc)
BrewCo isn't too bad if you're a beer drinker. Also, there's a British pub called Brittania on Santa Monica Blvd @ 3rd St. in Santa Monica with some good European brews on tap.
If you want a seriously tasty burger, brave the wait at Father's Office at 1018 Montana Ave, also in Santa Monica. It's basically at Montana and 10th. They also have a bunch of excellent beers on tap.
EDIT: Just as an anecdote, my 21st bday binge drinking ended abruptly at BrewCo with a "3 Wise Men." If you have to ask what it is, go ahead and order it.
I still don't know who ordered that shot for me on my bday, but if I find out, I'm gonna kick his/her ass!
I approve the Santa Monica Pimpage by Brian Scott. Carry on.
