clicks and pops what are they?

I am working on a track at the mo and all of a sudden it started clicking and popping in the mix. Its got a lot goin on and in cubase sx3 which is CPU heavy is it maxing ot my machine? Its on about 30-40% which i thought was ok. Now i cant mix down as the click transfer into mix help

You have to set the latency on the soundcard up.

512 samples tends to be a sweetspot, depending on your specs of course.

Exactly. The clicks and pops are audio dropouts. This is caused by your CPU not being able to keep up. Increase your latency setting and this should help. During mixdown you can work with very high latency settings, since you do not need real-time response. I have worked as high as 2048.

Thanks guys any idea how to turn buffer up on emu 0404 pci soundcard?

Posted by Eric J on Feb-27-2009 01:37:

You should be able to set your buffer in your DAW preferences. If I knew which DAW package you were using, I may be able to give you more specific instructions.

Cubase - Devices - Device Setup - VST Audiobay - Control Panel

Some cards may not allow this to be set here, but u can check.

If you have a crappy audio interface, this could be the problem. All my M-Audio interfaces crackled and popped. Once I upgraded to MOTU, perfectly clear audio.

Vst audiobay - control panel. hasnt got it it just has a EMU box come up with latency settings 2 - 500 ms no audio buffer then advanced takes me to patchmix which is is emu's own audio mixer with in out channels etc. Anyone know how to navigate that?

also check the website to the product whether u have the freshest driver installed and that u are actualy using it and not some other virtual problems stuff. if everything else fail u can try Asio4all, helped me with my interal soundcard-problems, thanks subtle.

Dude if u cant figure out how to increase the buffer on your soundcard you`re better of with a job on Burger King

Seriously, read the manual, visit your manufacturers support or forum, try googling it.. its an easy thing to do on all soundcards tbh.

All e-mu cards can be accessed this way. Only difference is e-mu has milliseconds instead of samples. On most newer machines a latency of 10-12 ms should be fine for this card.
But seriously, this is like the "bold text" option in office. Simple and essential. Just follow what Subtle wrote. It's a really simple process.

yeah i see what you did there . OK OK i shouldnt have flamed him it just offended me a little that someone could be so ignorant as to think that a record label would sign unfinished and in his own words boring material to encourage him to write more

The problem was not digital dropout it was a plug in I was using.

However on the subject of changing my audio buffer on a creative labs pro emu o4o4. You guys seem to think that it is in device setup > vst audiobay > control panel This brings up a latency compensation menu going from 2ms to 500ms Surely this is not the same as audio buffer that would go 512 1028 etc etc. Anyone care to explain for the benefot of anyone using CL pro cards

And again.. yes it is. Some soundcards have the buffer in samples, some in milliseconds.

1. open audio bay and set you emu asio driver

2. open emu asio tab:

3. click on control panel and set latency:

yeh or get a faster cpu

I recommend you record these clicks and pops. They may be evidence of alien communication.
