MOTU 2408 mk3

Anyone own one of these?

Can you use the 3 banks of adat(24 channels) AND the 8 analogue outs simultaneously?

I believe you can only use 3 banks at a time. So two ADATs and one Analog... ro SPDIF, Analog, ADAT, etc ...

ok cheers mate, got one 'cheap'ish so might get another and daisy chain em

At the moment you can get amazing deals on second hand motu stuff. The 2408 mk3 is great, congrats Ry!

Basically it can do 24 channels simultaneously, spread across any combination of the digital or analog I/O's, but if you use the analogs it has to be all 8 - you can't use some from that and the rest from the adat's - it all has to be in banks of eight.

Bear in mind that if you use higher sample rates (88 or above) the usable I/O count goes down to 4 channels per bank of the digital outs and 8 on the analogs giving a max channel count of 16.

make sure you hook up the word clock between your D8B and the motu (if you have the apogee d8b card then use that as the master, otherwise slave the d8b to the motu).

I don't use an external clock with mine. I do everything at 441 and have everything clocked by the PCI-424 card...

Seems a lot more stable with my mixer too

If you didn't have the apogee card then you'd definitely want to feed the mixer another clock source as the standard clock on the d8b is quite poor.

If you're using adat, the D8B can use that as the source for clock to/from the motu. If not then a lot of people suggest using the motu as the clock source feeding the D8B apogee clock card input.

I've also heard conflicting views in this stating the other way round, so it's really up to you to figure out what works best and syncs up with the rest of your kit.

With my last soundcard every boot up of the d8b was hit and miss, sometimes the meters would all shoot up and it would emit a high pitched noise, then i'd have to reboot comp and d8b

With this soundcard it syncs and boots every time, defo gonna get another 2408
