Like my previous mix, Twelve Hours, this is a set to gently introduce my McTrance loving friends to psy and make them realise it's not so scary. It starts off at 130BPM but lifts quickly to 135 and stays there for the rest of the set. Tracks 9 and 10 are pretty tough stuff; close to full-on but a lot more melodic and slower. In general, I've concentrated on being as melodic as possible, but also on strong bass lines, which I see as the real cornerstone of the psy-trance genre and where club trance tends to fall down.

Most of the tracks used are in fact quite old, and the artists all very well-known. You should rightfully see this as a drawback in most cases, but don't think it's due to laziness as a DJ on my part. I've searched long and hard for these tracks that fit together correctly and I hope my programming and mixing will show what can be done with music that is exceedingly common and well-known. If you're new to progressive psy-trance, just sit back and enjoy hearing some new material.

There's a (very vague) story behind this mix; it roughly tells the tale of a lone explorer leaving Earth for the first time and his experience out in space. The download is a zipped file and includes an explanation of this story and what each track represents, as well as higher resolution artwork and a cue file.

Finally, a note on the mixing: in the second half the bass line changes are very sudden. Some of you might not like this. Personally, I really like this style, but also the alternative is pretty horrible. Psy-trance isn't much like deep house or techno where bass lines will often blend nicely - usually they end up clashing pretty awfully. For this reason I've kept only one bass line playing at a time in most of the transitions, and layered them where I thought appropriate.

I'm proud of this one; hope you all enjoy it!

Hey, just had a listen, great set. A lot of times I didn't even notice the transitions because the entire mix had practically flawless mixing. The intro was badass, but a little confusing, and then we moved into some tasty progressive psy. Not a lot happened in the beginning, but as the set progressed it started driving harder and pumping way more. You were right about getting more full on toward the end, tracks 9 and 10 had me banging my head.

I thought it was an outstanding set, all the tracks flowed perfectly. Did you mix this all in key? Again, great job, I have no criticism, just pure enjoyment. Thanks for this!

Great set Domesticated!

Loved the transitions and build-up to slightly harder tracks later on in the mix.

Once again I enjoyed this one. Strangely, I actually found the first half more interesting in this set, where as it was the second half in the last one. That's not to say the ending was bad, it just didn't feel quite as engaging as the first half. The intro was really good as well. I always enjoy interesting intros and this was the strangest I've heard for a while.

Didn't have any problem with the mixing either. Once again, you've convinced me that progressive psy is probably the style closest to my tastes out there right now.

You fully nailed that. Absolutely wicked.

I'll try and be more specific after another listen, but nice work mate.

I'm in. I also have your 'Twelve' set (couldn't correlate your track tagging to your TA post, so I didn't leave feedback) which was a very nice set BTW.

If I can remember that "stub" is you, then I'll drop back in here at some point to give you feedback.

Thanks for another Prog/Psy set mate!

Cheers,

THC

Finally gave this a go today.

Really great stuff man, really nice flow and vibe. Your mixing is just fantastic, I nearly miss your transitions because you blend so smoothly, hats off to that. Progressive psy seems pretty interesting, I had a stint where I was into psytrance in general but I got bored of it pretty quickly. Your sets seem much more engaging and dynamic than a lot of the stuff I was listening to, so that's cool.

Good job.

In.

Thanks guys. I wasn't expecting such a positive reaction. I still think there's a fair bit of room for improvement with my mixing. In particular, Rumble In The Jungle to Space Noodle could have been better.

Ziptnf, this was indeed mixed harmonically.

Downloading for sure!

This music isn't something I am overly familiar with, but I can get down to the proggy-psy sound... so I'll give this a listen.

Posted by Teezdalien on Mar-12-2009 12:38:

Yeah this is fucking wicked man. Generally don't listen to psy all that often but really like 'Awaken'. Hadn't heard any of the other tracks but you've picked and mixed this really well.

lots of big names here. Good tune selection and smoothly mixed.
This one gets my thumb up.

Liked this one a lot, the mixing is neatly done. I agree with System-J, the first half of the mix was more interesting to me as well, liked those tracks more than the ones from the 2nd half. Do you have a link to your Twelve set by the way? I might try that one too but i'm too lazy to search now..

Posted by Domesticated on Mar-15-2009 22:31:

Thanks mate.

Here's Twelve Hours:
