another album similar to Global Underground 24:Rekjavik

Hey guys,

I'm trying to find another album thats similar to the first disc of Global Underground 24: Rekjavik mixed by Nick Warren. I was listening to it yesterday and I know its old but I love the atmosphere he sets up throughout the whole disc moving from chillout to downtempo stuff, and quickens the tempo to breakbeat and slow progressive house. Any recommendations on other albums with a similar atmosphere? Here is the tracklist to the first disc if you guys have forgotten.

Disc: 1
1. Dub In Time - Avatar
2. Firewire - Substructure
3. Compass Error - Atlas
4. Nobody's Home - Ulrich Schnauss
5. Roll Call - Shuffleheads
6. Happy Cycling - Boards Of Canada
7. Thinking About Your Next Move - Yunx
8. Tightrope Artist Tale - Planet Funk
9. The Dive - Momu
10. In Every Truth - Mastermind
11. Helga Moller - Justin Simmons
12. Outsider - Burufunk
13. 14:31 - Global Communication
14. 110 Mistakes - Mot
15. Yewminist - Grayarea
16. Love Lost - Glimmer Of Dope

Hey Andy! I recommend the first disc of Nick Warren's GU030: Paris, very similar to the first disc or Reykjavik. Also, I highly recommend this set from a fellow TA:

Ambrosia: Mixed by Myra Romano

I finished that set I told you I was working on, in case you want to check it out too

Daaaaaammmnn!!!!!! I did not know that...what's the story?

I haven't heard the whole thing but the first disc of Zabiela's new mix is kind of similar.... maybe.

Nick was working on various different versions for the release. This was one of them. I think the version that went in the official release is the better of the 2. Nick put it in his website back in 2006 and a ripped it the morning he put it on there.

Nick Warren 28 Shangai is very nice.

Electric Calm and Afterhours from GU too.

Yeah, with the exception of a couple of standout tracks that weren't included in the officially released version, I think the released version was the better of the two; really didn't find that the tracks he would eventually use to kick off the first disc worked very well to wind them down, but perhaps I've just come to expect Firewire and Compass Error to be the first two things I hear when pressing play.

i've been obsessed with that set lately. was that one of the ones you made me listen to? i know i recognize that Icehouse track from somewhere but i don't know if it's from that or something else...

Also on Global Underground, check out disc 2 of all the afterhours CDs. Really stellar stuff, but I don't usually care for the other 2 CDs that come with every release.

Good call. Ace set.

Posted by lcid on Mar-06-2009 04:51:

i never thought of it as comparable to Rekjavik but thanks for recommending it anyway.

Posted by andyN203 on Mar-06-2009 05:20:

Hey OP here, thanks guys for all the quick responses. I'm gonna see if I can download the Proton Radio Mix that lucid recommended. To the poster who recommended James Zabiela's new Master Series compliation, I have listened to it but I like Nick Warren's GU:24 much better. There's just something about the album that grows on you if its your first time listening to it, and never gets old IMO.

also check out Northern Exposure Vol 1 (CD1 North) if you haven't already heard it.

i really don't see any logical comparison between Fred Everything and disc one of GU 024.

also check out

the midtempo disc of Balance 010 mixed by Jimmy Van M
Back to Mine mixed by Dave Seaman (although this stays more on the chill side of things, it's quite good)
disc one of Balance 006 mixed by Anthony Pappa
James Zabiela - Blue Room Mix 7-Dec-2002 (short but very sweet)

and a mix from a TA member
