Win a genre, make a mix!

OK, I just had this completely stupid idea (which is why I'm posting it in the c0r):
All the TA DJs can participate. Everyone who does names a genre for a mix (like Vocal Trance, Psy, Techno, etc.). Then everyone is randomly given one of these genres and he has to make a mix with it, post it, and get ridiculed or applauded.

I have no clue what the point of this would be, but I though it was a funny idea.

This is actually a fun idea. However...

What if one has nothing in that particular genre? I know I'm going to get stuck with Nazi Polkacore.

Well, dig up something. Show us your idea of what Nazi Polkacore really is.
Or maybe we just shouldn't let people name totally weird genres.

See, this is the entire point. Guys like Mr. Mystery or Clovis doing a Eurodance mix, while the Armin fanboys have to come up with a Techno set.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Mar-06-2009 14:22:

I wouldn't actually mind eurodance.

I'm in.

Allright, so if more people like the idea I'll make an official thread in the DJ Promotion forum with some rules and stuff.
If you have any suggestions, post them here.

The only thing I can think of is the genre stuff - no ridiculous suggestion, keep it strictly EDM or something.

Also, some sort of minimum/maximum length for the mix (30 to 60 minutes?).

This sounds like it would be awesome and possibly hilarious.

I will watch with interest. I guess maybe I could throw together a mix in Ableton even.

Posted by Clovis on Mar-06-2009 14:45:

While an awesome and hilarious idea, I just don't have time for this kind of shit. I can't even find time to record a mix of music I like these days.

Posted by Ian on Mar-06-2009 14:52:

I'm in, i need a genre to blame for my shitness on traktor!

oh and i throw a mean old hardcore (not tiesto style ) set down!

Posted by david.michael on Mar-06-2009 15:07:

This would be pretty fun. I wouldn't mind doing this.

Only problem is that either you have to buy tracks you're not interested in having, or it encourages "acquiring" tracks via other means.

edit - videos would be even better... seeing faces cringe while being forced to play happy hardcore would be pretty entertaining.

I have some Happy HardCountry that might remix well into Nazi Polkacore.

I kinda like the idea of coming up with these crazy genres and seeing who has the "skills" to pull of something resembling it.

Posted by Acton on Mar-06-2009 15:17:

This could be quite entertaining, count me in!

As long as I'm not landed with R&B

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Mar-06-2009 15:19:

LOL, I'm anticipating the difficulty I'll have if I get stuck with a rap or drum-n-bass mix...

Posted by Clovis on Mar-06-2009 15:20:

DNB isnt that hard to mix.

I don't think it would be, though, it's just that I hardly know any dnb and I have practically none of it.

I'm afraid I'll get stuck with Nazi Polkacore or Dub Techno

In reality, I'm just too lazy... I haven't even made mixes out of the tunes I have out of already compiled tracklists...

How would 'acquiring' tracks you would never have purchased otherwise make any difference in the grand scheme of things?

Posted by Omega_Blue on Mar-07-2009 04:21:

fantastic idea. makes people think outside their comfort zone-genre or whatever.
