Originally posted by emc^2 Not entirely correct - is more commonly used in russian as a "car", not a "machine". So, in essence this would be interpreted as "Small Musical Car". In Russian, "mashina" (machine) is not used as widely to describe a device - perhaps in industrial speech. In every day conversation a more appropriate word would be "apparat" (apparatus/device/machine). Therefore, more accurate translation leaving no room for misinterpretation would be:

Another option would be to use a diminutive form of word "Mashina" and use "Mashinka" instead - literally meaning small machine. That would be: ![]()

p.s. I now remember why I was kicked out of Russian 3, while trying to sneak in an easy credit and boost my GPA. I corrected my teacher about his incorrect spelling with a pre-revolutionary alphabet. /nerd mode: OOOOON!

миниатюрная музыкальная шкатулка

Where is Lira when you need him?
How would that sound in transliteration?
I'm working on a song, it has a russian folk / tetris type theme [its not a tetris song :P] And the idea is a small old [somewhat busted/strange] musix box playing next to a grand piano.
a clip: http://tindeck.com/listen/wtyb
Anyways, what is a good catchy russian name showing this idea that I could use?
I am going to transliterate it [this means spell the pronounceation with english letters, for those that don't know]
