Recorded mix problem

I recently recorded a mix but silly me didnt notice the level was to high when recording it. To save doing it again, is there anything I can do with to remove the slight destortion?

Short answer. No.

The clipping will square off the peaks and there's really no effective way to "smooth" them out, especially as it would probably take longer than doing it again. I always check the gain staging at the bginning of a recorded mix - just remember, you can always increase the volume if it's a little too quiet.

Try putting the mix in audacity, Normalize the entire file, then Compress it. These are options under "Effect". See if that fixes your problem.

1.) Normalizing isn't going to help, since that merely brings the top-most peak of your mix to 0db. Since his recording clipped, it's already maxed out and should have no effect.

2.) Why would you want to compress (reduce the dynamics) of a clipped mix? It's already distorted.

You can't magically turn |�|_|�|_|�| into /\/\/\/\ once your peaks are cut off.

OP, hate to tell you, but you've gotta re-record or live with it.

nothing u can do but re-record the mix. You can't fix the distortion.

I had this problem also. I tried to reduce the volume level after the recording, but the distortion remained in the tape. I just had to re-record the whole thing again.
