"NOBODY LISTENS TO TECHNO" - Help!!

Constantly I have this guy who everytime he sees me he screams out "NOBODY LISTENS TO TECHNO" following the release of the song by Enimen(sp). He usually does it in front of a large crowd of spectators, in which everyone laughs. I can't believe this shite, I feel like the school bully is messing with me! What comeback would you guys say to this ignorant fool?

Posted by DJ_Bod on Jun-13-2002 12:57:

HOw about.... "White people can't rap!" Only works if he's white tho.
or.... "Your mom listens to it when we're banging!"

I have never been really good with combacks tho. My suggestion is just ignore him. He's only gonna keep saying it because it bothers you.

Or you can always play along... Be like "I don't listen to techno... Dick"

Just my thoughts

Haha! That's just it, I don't respond but he keeps on keepin on!! It's starting to get real old.

Posted by webmeister on Jun-13-2002 13:29:

Well if the line's getting old, inform him of this. I'm sure he'd like to hear from you.

Posted by Damo on Jun-13-2002 13:35:

wouldn't it be great if a techno producer came out with a track that featured "nobody listens to techno" throughout it and it was a banging track??

and why are you offended by the guy? it's not like he's insulting your family... he's just joking around about your music preference... just laugh with him or tell him how you feel...

Posted by Ultraphu on Jun-13-2002 13:40:

haha good point. I think it is just that where I am from it is very hard to find others that jam to this music, so it drives me crazy! Everyone here listens to ghetto rap or country!

Posted by butterfly on Jun-13-2002 13:41:

i think i would just laugh at a comment like that. people who choose to be ignorant like that probably cannot be enlightened to truly appreciate "techno" so let them think what they want and be glad they are not infiltrating your music scene.

Posted by Ultraphu on Jun-13-2002 14:11:

I'd love to tell him I don't even listen to Techno, mostly just Hard Trance, Progressive, etc.

But I don't think it would do any good.

no, it won't...he'll just think you're a nerd, the nut probably doesn't even know the difference

personally what i would do is this:
him: "nobody listens to techno"
me: "so what, i do, you have a problem with that?"

but i'm a confrotational bastard, who never lets shit rest and i usually don't give a f*ck....like i'll be sitting on a train bopping my head like mad to some whicked beats and people will look at me all strange or even laugh, and i'll just smile at them....i really have no shame

Posted by YuVaL on Jun-13-2002 14:20:

yah my friend keeps listening to that crap song 2
i just ignore his arse.... i really dont care
i was listening to some tunes... then he comes up to me and says "nobody listens to techno.." im like, that's not techno u retarded fuck

Posted by DJSoundWave on Jun-13-2002 14:20:

just knock him out m8,
nah man only jokin.
i know the feeling one of my m8s keeps sayin it. and i keep telling him that its trance i listen to but he ddont av it.
some ov me other m8s suggest i listen to techno-bollox and cant really tell the diff between the two, so just tell him he knows shit all about music. or just laugh along with him.
i kinda get pissed off wen my tunes get called techno-bollox but hey, most ov my m8s listen to rock so i just skit the fuk out of it and they h8 it. i mean wat can b worse then rock ??

agreed its funny, but its not meant to be comedic, which just makes me laugh that much harder

Posted by butterfly on Jun-13-2002 14:31:

don't flame me for this, but i actually kind of like that song. not musically, but i find it kind of funny. they whole point of the song is to cause controversy. the only controversy i have seen as an effect of it is on boards like this.

but in it, his techno comment is directed at Moby, and I think his music is a little different than what we are talking about on TA.

So I guess my point is that the people who use Eminem as an avenue to make fun of us for our musical taste really have no clue what we listen to. but we already knew that, didn't we?

why would we flame you...its just one lyric in a song

i LOVE eminem...he's my favorite rapper, and i love the song, even if he does insult techno in one line of the song, whatever, i don't have to agree with every single one of his lyrics to like his music

Posted by DJ_Bod on Jun-13-2002 14:48:

Why would we flame you for that? Its just your opinion. I mean, you don't put it off like its the Bible-written truth. I'm sure theres alot of different opions on just trance music on these boards.

Me personally, I HATE Eminem. Except for ONE verse ("Fight Music" by D12), and ONE whole song ("Guilty Conscience") Just my opinion, but he is probably the biggest "pop" star around now. His music isn't even rap anymore in my book. He's not even from Detroit... friggin wannabe...

LOL... OK, enough venting about how I despise Eminem.

Posted by Ultraphu on Jun-13-2002 14:59:

Eminem's video for that song is pretty good.

Moby isn't really "techno" these days, more like New Age... so that makes Eminem look worse.

And check out this article about Eminem's position on file-sharing...

What an idiot!

Posted by P4z! on Jun-13-2002 17:14:

Tell him that the city Eminem is from (Detroit) is the place where techno music was born in

Posted by davinox on Jun-13-2002 17:39:

at my school, noone listened to rap, especially the white guys, then I started and people called me a wigger. i didn't care, i kept preaching the word of rap.

then people started to like it, so everyone thought that was cool.

then i switched to trance, and was preaching that, so every one of those mudda******s knew by the end of the year I liked Trance and not Techno. and if anyone insulted me, i would make fun of rock and how shitty that is.

that's all. buhbye.

Posted by Renegade on Jun-13-2002 17:41:

Yep, Eminem is a grade A tit.

All he knows how to do is stir controversy, and the media are playing rights into his hands. I personally haven't found anything in least bit controversial in his work. They go on about how he condones violence against women and homosexuals - and I presume they're talking about "My Name Is" and "Stan" - but for all the shouting and swaering he's done, he still hasn't said anything in the least bit "provoking" in my opinion. Even with this "nobody listens to techno" shite, the only reason to get pissed off at him is because he seems to bask in his own ignorance. The fact that he doesn't actually know what techno is (especially if he's referring to Moby) kinda renders the line a bit pointless to tell you the truth.

And he goes on about "MTV trying to censor me" and all that shit..... bloody hell. He provides them with clips with all the naughty language bleeped out ffs. He obviously fancies himself as slayer of MTV and all these commercial giants, but he's still signed to Sony isn't he? One of the biggest record companies in the world? Oooo, how underground of you Slim.

The fact is, he sold out from the second he rolled into town on Dr. Dre's back. All the melodies in his tracks are so basic and annoyingly crass, pandering perfectly to the tastes of 14 year old girls..... which brings up another point. All his fans are under the age of 20. I can't think of anyone I've ever spoken to or anyone I know over the age of 20 who can take him seriously as an artist (apologies if anyone over that age here does). He's a talentless hack with a chip on his shoulder, who wants nothing more than to make a shit-load of cash (as evidenced by his stance on mp3s) and cause some "controversy".

Why don't you do something really controversial, Slim, rather than just swearing, verbally bashing gays or writing tracks about how fucking controversial you are. Why not tell your record company to fuck off. Why not make some sort of a political statement: let's hear your views on capitalism, American fundamentalism, Marxism and the Hegelian dialect, liberalism, or anything. Instead of whinging about how everyone's out to get you, produce something decent instead of this nasally white-boy shite you try to pass off as "rap". Why not do something really controversial like condoning charity, or third world aid, or anything that hasn't already been done to death? Instead of taking asprin on stage and telling everyone you've just taken ecstacy, why not do the really controversial thing launch an anti-drug campaign? He couldn't. All he's got is his bad-boy image, and nothing else. If he stops writing songs with a controversial undertone he knows that he's going to get lost in the sea of talentless nobodies: which is why he's trying so hard to get his face on the cover of teen magazines, where he then goes on about how absolutely hardcore he is.

For gods sake, Slim, do something with your fame. This shit is getting old.

All the people that dislike Eminem should hear the Antiphus remix of Scot Project - O vs. D12 - Purple Pills

Will tell Antiphus to rip it a.s.a.p

hehe

Hey, welcome to America...I get the same thing all the time too. Just say "If nobody listens to techno then how come Loveparade, one of the world's biggest parties, is based around techno?"
