Things to do to unstress

I wanna know if you have some advices to give me to unstress when I'm mixing in front of people. When I start my set my hands are always shaking a lot I know lots of people have this feeling too =)

One thing that help me is a chewing gum... dunno why but it helps

Tnx for your advices

nice to see a topic in here that's not about equipment

on topic: I'd say get drunk! then again that might affect your mixing capabilities. Oh well you can't have everything

lol

Next time I'll try to be a little bit drunk =)
And smoking some pots too

yea have a drink to loosen you up
breathing slowly
meditating.....put urself in a cool/calm state of mind

Masturbate!

...oh wait, you said in front of people. Well, I gues it depends on the club, then...

Deep breathing and just plain being sure about your l33t sk177z should do the trick. Just remember, "you are a beautiful and unique snowflake."

Just don't drink too much, I did that when I was performing live once.. I was drnk like a drunken duck, omg my perfomance went straight to hell

Chewing gum seems like a nice idea and having 2-3 beers sounds smart too.

I use to get this so i use to drink to calm my nerves....After about 6 month it goes away....If you just get use to spinning infront of people then it wont be such a big deal

beer is always my calming tool
i have 2-3 beers and i'm good to go

Posted by Dj Flesch on Jun-13-2002 23:07:

Smiley DJ

I love beer, whether I'm spinning or not, and I find that the more beer I have, the better I zone out to everything but the bass beat making the headphones thump on my ears! When I was starting out, I only was able to mix well when I was trashed hehe! .

The thing that I'm worried about doing that live, is what if I have to pee really bad!? Has that ever happened to anyone?

I have talked to some DJ in Qc and half of them are drunk on a live set

i dunno about all that... (the whackin off thang) lol...

try to train yourself to use the energy of the crowd in a positive way... honestly i spin much better with audience, the bigger the better... gets me hyped up and keeps me on my toes.. but then again I never really feel nervous, i know most the people won't even know when i f**k up, unless its really bad... as long as people are enjoying the tracks there can be alot of positive energy

when i get nervous...i just let everything go and close my eyes and fly with the crowd... and takt giant breaths and letting it out slowly. and, always when i mix, i ALWAYS close my eyes during the mix,...try it some time

Posted by MERiDiAN5i2 on Jun-15-2002 09:06:

blowsjobs.. blah.. id rather hit it :P

Posted by Tak on Jun-15-2002 15:53:

Just think "Fuck it, lets have a good time", although I have to admit I get the shakes too.

Posted by DJ LIQUID on Jun-15-2002 16:20:

just face it....your going to be a little nervous......but soon you will get to the point to where you feed off the crowd's energy

Posted by DJ Sunburn on Jun-15-2002 16:58:

hehe...don't masturbate like crazy though...you might get blue balled and wanna die during your set.

I think its a good idea to just get into the music, hell thats what the people are there for anyways The more you get into it, the more the crowd will get into it too. Usually, you done see tiesto just standing there, but thats what you see with some progressive djs. I noticed that if a dj goes crazy, the crowd will too.

One way not to be nervous is if you play in front of your friends first, or may be your dog or cat

Sorry to bring back my "old" thread but I got my first real gig this friday, for my birthday party There will be about 100 / 150 ppl (enough for a first real one ). I will play mainly hardtrance/hardhouse/techno stuff.

I will think about your advices
I'll first try to find a girl so -> blowjob then some beer so I'll be drunk behind the decks... and oh yes I forgot, pee before the party

Posted by Great Outdoors on Aug-12-2002 15:25:

I think I'd just try not to think too much about the beatmatching.. I'd tell myself "Tune selection is what counts" and try not to concentrate too much on the beats, so I can release some of the tension off myself even when I trainwreck.
