invisibility cloak is now reality

quote:
A new metamaterial created by Rice University scientists could hide objects from human sight.

By creating perfectly aligned dimples in a material, the scientists channeled specific wavelengths of light from many directions into one uniform direction.

The first "invisibility cloak," which hid objects from radio waves, was created in 2006 by scientists from Duke. Since then scientists have tried to create ever-smaller structures to manipulate the visible spectrum of light.

If I had one that actually worked.... man, I can't even imagine the things I would do.

1) Stow away on airplanes, cruises, etc. for free awesome vacations.

2) Hide in banks or famous art gallaries until after hours while everyone is gone, and steal lots of money and priceless art.

3) Get into whatever sporting event I wanted.

4) Listen in on private meetings in the white house.

5) Be a voyeur.

all your options are meaningless when done alone. and with regard to the museum/bank, how the hell do you expect to get into the secured art pieces or locked vault?! the only time those areas are opened are during business hours, and you don't think employees would be suspicious if they see cash hovering out of the vault and disappearing?!

What 29 second segment of that clip did you find thought-provoking or useful? I'll take the whole 59 back, please.

i'm pretty sure this is not going to be a kind of garment any time soon, but will rely on certain geometries such as the sphere or cylinder

i know dumbass, but when the employee is in the vault, unlocking it to get cash out for the day, and they see the cash travel, by itself, off of the shelf in the vault and being placed under the cloak and disappearing, right in front of them, don't you think some alarm bells would go off in their head?! unless the branch was in Woodbridge, and the damn italoginas would be totally clueless.

Also, presumably, 17sss will not just go for one helping of 20s but would want to take several piles, so it would be more than one occurrence of this magical disappearing act, prompting the employee to take immediate securitive action.

You think you can rob a bank like on Bugs Bunny?! go tell your Mom to make you another sandwich.

In the not-so distant future, cylinder-wear will be fashionable.
