violins/ableton or otherwise

Any way to make good violin sounds in Ableton? I previewed the new Tension plugin and what came out of it sounded awful. Any tips?

buy a vst

You might want to try the freeware vst: string-theory. I doubt it will work, but you might be able to do with it.

Otherwise, I have the Philharmonik Miroslav... it has some decent violin samples, but not articulate enough.

Are you asking for an ensemble of violins or a solo-violin?

I had ensemble violins in mind. I'm pretty new to the whole production thing, wanted to mess around with violins today, thanks for the tip. Maybe I should buy a music theory book.

reFX nexus has a orchestra pack which has great samples for violins, thats what i use

Well... I have the answer to your problem... maybe.

Check this website out now: http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/

That has the squidfont orchestral soundfont pack. It's free, and has various orchestral ensembles to play with in legato style of play. There aren't many solo instruments, and sadly, the violin isn't a solo instrument here... but I think it's worth looking into. Do yourself a favor: download it and mess around with it. If you don't have a soundfont player, there are freeware ones (check out websites such as this: FREE SOUNDFONT PLAYER VST ).

Camp out at the local university orchestra/violin class, and find someone talented there and have them play for you. Could probably get a good deal, the hard part would be making a good recording. Having a good mic and placement, a nice room, good pre amp, and decent converter. I hope to do this someday.

You'll probably spend more money on a half-an-hour's use at a recording studio once you realize how acoustically unsound your flat is. If it's a female violinist, good luck getting her a kilometer near your flat !

I think a female violinist would be easy to get into my 'flat', as would a female vocalist. I already have found some vocalists who wont mind stepping into my 'flat'. And your statement kinda doesnt make sense, what are you trying to say in your first sentence 'mate'?

Well, pardner... I recon I was simplay drawling some hospitality to the non-US folks 'round dese here parts.

A 'flat' is what some locals in this board would call an apartment. Forgive me, call it my left-overs from my over-seas experiences falling back on my karma. Since I have to explain the interjection, it is no longer funny at all.

Just as I had to consult the Urban Dictionary numerous times during CATHOLIC high school (of all friggen places ), you might have to consult this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...e_United_States

Yeah... I'm sure the original poster has no problem coughing up that kind of money.
